In this short introduction, Stanley Grenz and Roger Olson, two theologians who care deeply about the witness of ordinary Christians and the ministry of the church, show what theology is, what tools theology uses, why every believer (advanced degrees or not) is a theologian and how the theological enterprise can be productive and satisfying. Their clear, easily understood book is ideal for students, church study groups, and individual Christians who want to strengthen understanding, belief, and commitment by coming to know God more fully.

I have to admit to being a little intimidated by the topic so I had avoided the course for some time. However, the book dealt with my issues right away and as a result has put me at ease with the idea of being a theologian. While this may sound like a great leap in how I view myself as a student of the bible, once you read the book you will discover that anyone who ever considers the presence, work, character or nature of God is practicing theology. This book causes you to examine yourself and introduces various tools for asking and answering some of our deepest thoughts about our Lord. And it makes it okay if, on occasion, we don't get any answers or clarity at all. It is an easier read than I anticipated, it articulated some thoughts and beliefs that I've held for some time and has broadened my view and pushed me to extend grace to those who think, feel and act differently than me. Good stuff!

Touching on Jesus' command to "Love the Lord your God with... all your mind..." Grenz and Olson demonstrate that the discipline of theology is designed to do just that.
The book is written at a high school/ undergraduate level and can be easily understood with a minimum of new vocabulary.
The only drawback to the work is that the authors begin nearly every chapter by recounting a "Peanuts" comic strip- I wish the publishing house had acquired the rights to reprint the strips.
Ricardo RochaLas Vegas, NV5 Stars Out Of 5August 12, 2009Ricardo RochaLas Vegas, NVIf you are starting your theology endeavor this is a great book for you. Grenz and Olson start from the scratch opening our eyes to the truth that everyone is a theologian, the matter is what kind of theologian are we and what kind of theology do we make? They also explore the theologys task, tradition and tools to build a contextualized bridge to our context.
Stephen Zuber5 Stars Out Of 5July 8, 2009Stephen ZuberThis book is very sound, readable, and affordable. It's a great introduction into how to think theologically. It doesn't get into specific Christian doctrines.
