Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  Originally from New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania. Now living with my wife in the foothills 1 hour east of the south gate of Yosemite National forest. More bio info and photo on

What was your motivation behind this project?  My desire was to simply re-ignite the childlike wonder we all had with nature once upon a time. If miracles are marvelous things that no man can fully explain then we are infused and surrounded by miracles. Nature is tangible evidence to incredible inventions which of course begs the question - who could possibly be this smart? I think this is a terrific journey for any mind. I think such a mental journey leads to inspiration and hope to simply consider the incomprehensible order and interdependence of more systems we can even analyze. Worship is a logical reaction. Worship and wonder and pleasure.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  Nature has always been inspirational. Its sheer genius is vast. Although intelligent design is now a burning controversy, the book pre-dates it. Based on a column published from 1994-2004 nature has always been the teacher and scientists the students. How can anyone claim intelligence superior to that designing nature? The book quotes no experts but invites readers to renew confidence in evidence over expert opinion while marveling at the working details in all of nature - in every category.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I have always been fascinated by how things work. Even seeds spreading themselves by sticking to my shoelaces or drifting through the air or floating on the water. C.S. Lewis is a big influence because he pondered things beyond what he read. I want readers to do the same.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  A mere 3 months ago [this is September 2005], "intelligent design" meant what it sounds like. However, those who oppose the mere suggestion of any intelligence greater than man have bombarded the public with negative associations "dishonest", "unscientific", "forcing religion", and more have led the public away from the scientific arena where evolution would be embarassed, and the hard, sensible evidence of the idea of engineering requiring intelligence would shine. Don't be fooled with tactics. Pursue evidence that you can actually understand. Please visit for Table of Contents, articles on the controversy, excerpts from the book and much more.
