Product Description

Elizabeth Achtemeier examines the often-neglected Minor Prophets and explains them as they reflect the church at worship and at work. She sets the Minor Prophets in their canonical context emphasizing the relationship between the message of these prophets and the New Testament. Unique in the use of brief quotations from great preachers' sermons on the prophets, Nahum-Malachi is enriched with the vast insightful store of homiletical interpretation available today.
The Interpretation commentaries are written specifically for teachers and preachers in the local church through the means of expository essays. Each volume is based on the Revised Standard Version. The comments deal with whole portions or sections of the text which is used in teaching rather than individual verses or words. The series main attempts are to present the central purpose of each Biblical Book, to show its use in the liturgical traditions, and its significance for Christian ethics and theology.

I purchased this work hoping for more of the insights given by the author in her work in the NIBC Minor Prophets I volume. I was disappointed. Basically, this whole Interpretation series is poison. This volume is probably better than most in the series but it gives credence to a lot of what I consider unwarranted speculative criticism.
