Andreola Review

I can still remember the day when my high school history teacher called a young lady to the front of the class to find Egypt on the big wall map . . . of South America! Flustered, she finally gave up and returned to her seat amidst the laughter of the other students. She just couldn’t “get it” and, like so many of us, probably grew up thinking history was tedious or dull. Well, it’s never too late to form new opinions as we learn along with our children.

The Mystery of History is a chronological study of God’s intervention in human events from creation to the resurrection. The heart of this course is a well-researched and lively text ideally suited to be read aloud and discussed. Timeline projects, study questions, vocabulary, maps, quizzes, tests, and numerous activities for a broad range of ages are included. Bite-sized weekly lessons cover the entire school calendar. Students will learn who walked the earth when and what was going on in other parts of the world at the same time as major biblical events. Some amazing and fun facts are thrown in just to keep us on our toes. Additionally, this book shows that studying history reveals a beautiful picture of God’s sovereignty in which there is never a “dull” moment. Grades 4 to 8; adaptable for older or younger students. 469 pages, softcover from Bright Ideas.

Excellent resource for World History. No longer is Bible history taught as a disconnect from the rest of World History. You are learning about Jonah and the Big fish and the first Olympic games simultaneously. As a history lover and a Christian this book helped me discover the world events that were happening in conjunction with the events of the Bible. Excellent!!!

This is the first year we have used The Mystery of History curriculum. My daughter, who loves history, enjoys the daily lessons and activities. For the first time, I look forward to our history lessons. Not at all boring, like other curriculums we have used in the past. Love it!

WOW!!! This is an excellent history curriculum. My children have enjoyed learning about history. They are presented with short historical stories and an activity to reinforce what was learned. This book teaches what has happened in the bible as well as what has happened in the world. Children learn that the bible is history not that the two subjects are separate. I would recomend to all. It is written with activities for all ages K - 12.

The author has a lot of information that is correct, but she throws too much leven that levens the whole lump. In the activities she has you doing things like building the tower of babel by making a ziggurat(which is not pleasing to the Lord, serving idols) Her wording in the text is glorifying things like stonehenge stating that their were "intellegent minds" and "the amazing thing about the structure" There is nothing amazing about it. When a man is demonized he could probably have great strength and be able to move these stones into their placement. There is no mention of the human sacrifices done there. Also, the activity is to make a miniature version of stonehenge another idol. These are only a few things I have found so far. I purchased both volume I and II and I am also finding many things wrong with Volume II as well. I will use this text to show my daughter what not to do!

While we are only in the beginning of the book, it is incredible. It is for anyone on various levels, from beginner to expert. I have two kids in different grades and both have no problem keeping up. I would recommend to any teacher, whether mom or professional.

This is an amazing book! My children actually came up to me one night after dinner and asked, "Can we learn History tonight?" I almost fell over because I would have to fight almost every night with him during the school year to get to do his homework. We decided to try homeschooling over the summer, and since I need to learn more about History, this book seemed like a good fit. It is wonderfully arranged and I enjoy talking with my kids about the events from a Biblical point of view. It has encouraged a lot of questions and given us much to talk about. There are a variety of activities to choose from for all ages, which is also very helpful. This book was defintely an answer to prayer!

I wish I could give this more than 5 stars, it deserves it. This is a well written, accurate, and interesting overview of world history. Realistically this is an elementary course, not junior or high school. To obtain the needed depth for a junior high or high school course would mean spending the majority of the day researching the covered material. As an elementary course this couldn’t be better. It is written with a Christian world view and begins with creation as stated in Genesis. The topics covered provide the perfect depth and interest level and the course is flexible.
