This CD is a wonderful resource companion for The Mystery of History Vol. 2, but is not necessary for the actual curriculum. It has historical background, coloring pages and a craft for 8 additional mini-units that dovetail with various Chapters in the textbook. The only possible drawback (and the reason I didn't give it 5 stars) is that the crafts are quite advanced and need some obscure art materials you'll need to purchase at an art store or a place like Michael's. They are gorgeous, high-quality crafts, but challenging, and far from your usual cut/ color and paste type crafts you'd normally see for an elementary school age level. My children are in 3rd, 6th and 7th grades, but parts of these projects must be done by an adult or older teen (cutting out pieces of a model with an Xacto knife, for instance). Having said that, any one of these projects would make a spectacular display for an art competition or such event. I was overwhelmed at first by the materials list and the process for each object, but I approached it bit by bit, and now I'm excited about doing them. Time will tell if the kids enjoy it as much! But if you're looking for superb quality art projects to compliment your history course, this is your resource. I also highly recommend the website Enrichment4You.com, the people who designed the projects themselves. They have tons of other amazing activities for those who are artistically inclined (or who want to be!).
