I first read this book nearly 20 years ago as a 5th-grade student. It has remained one of my favorite books of all time. This book fueled my love of the outdoors and my deep interest in wilderness survival and played a big part in my joining the Boy Scouts and eventually earning the Eagle Scout Award. I would strongly encourage this book for any children (and adults!). It will expose them to Sam's experience and perhaps spark the same fire as it did in me. December 4, 2007
