My husband and I bought this book for our 3 year old for Christmas. We were on the fence about it in the beginning but when we got to day 88 we knew it was time to give it up. "Jesus is happy when we love each other. Do you treat our friends with kindness? Do you think about the way your words and deeds make them feel? Then God will make sure they do the very same thing for you!" That is a great sentiment but unfortunately us exactly the opposite of what the Bible says. Job, Joseph, Daniel, Jesus, Paul and many others would definitely disagree with that statement. The Bible clearly states that we will suffer for the cause of Christ but that is what we are called to do as followers of Him. There were many red flags with this book but when we got to day 88, we knew this was not something we could continue to read to our kids. There are many good books for kids though, like The Beginner's Bible. We read that one daily and it has started a lot of great conversations with our son about Jesus.

I'm attracted to the cute cover page!

When I saw the page with a note to the parents, I smiled... There's a verse there (Read: Isaiah 40:8 (NIV)) which reminded me why I opted to review this book. I wanted us to have a closer relationship to God and hoping that this book can help.

I love the idea of a book with daily verses which we can flip through and read. Each pages is dedicated for each day in the calendar, with the daily verse and a very cute illustrations and a brief paragraph to accompany the verse.

I also love the index sections! It's categorized into sections such as "Anger", "Courage" and so on, followed by the days which is related to it, making it easy to look for the verses.

If you are planning to get a Christian gift book for a child, you should consider this book! I think this book is a good choice as it is written in simple and easy to understand words and even for Ben who is still young to be reading, at least I can show him the cute illustrations and make up my own version of story for each verses.

My Everyday Promise Bible: 365 Bible Promises for Little Hearts, written and illustrated by Phil A. Smouse, is a book filled with enough Bible verses and promises to last an entire year. The verses are numbered Day 1 Day 365. You can start out on Day 1 and read straight through day by day or skip around as you like. Each days reading is on one page. Each page has a title for the reading, a Bible verse that is paraphrased so its simple enough for little ones to understand and a devotional about the verse. There is an index at the end of the book that breaks down the verses into categories such as friends, pride, sadness, etc.The illustrations are colorful and eye-catching, done in a cartoon-like manner, sure to hold a young childs interest. What I Like: I like the variety of verses and the easy way you can find a verse about a particular topic in the Index. What I Dislike: Although the text is written in a simple, straight-forward manner, the book itself is cumbersome. It has a board book cover and heavy-weight paper pages to hold up for extended use. The book is nearly 400 pages (with each all the verses and the Index). This makes it quite thick and heavy. I dont think children ages 3-5 will find the book very user-friendly without a lot of help from someone else.Overall Rating: Good.Age Appeal: 3-5.Christian Children's Book Review

What a delightful little devotional for 3-5 year-old children! Before a child is able to read on their own they could enjoy this as a caregiver reads to them and/or just enjoy the pictures through out. Each page is filled with a verse, a sentence explanation in understandable terms and an image that shows what the word of God is portraying in that verse. I cannot wait to get a copy of this to share my little gal and I suggest that you look into it for you and yours! Coming, September 2009.
