It was good, but not enticing
Growing up in the south (North Alabama, actually), I know who Rick & Bubba are. They come up in many conversations, and everyone loves them. I requested this book from Booksneeze because I thought I would enjoy getting to "know" them a little better.
"We Be Big" definitely helps you see into Rick & Bubba's world of radio and faith. I enjoyed reading more about them and their "mostly" true story. I did find the book a bit hard to read, though I am used to reading fiction or self-help type books and this is neither. If you have no idea who Rick and Bubba are, then you most likely wouldn't really enjoy this book, but if you know who they are or have heard them on the radio, then you may enjoy reading a little more about their adventure. There is plenty of humor, some heartbreak and a lot of stories in the book to help keep you entertained.

I requested this book from Booksneeze.com it's paper back with 219 pages. I had requested books for myself in the past and decided to request this book for my husband, he is still reading the book so I decided to take a look at it. This is not the type of books I read so it was hard for me to get into. I have never heard of Rick and Bubba till this book. This book starts off with Rick talking about his childhood how he knew he was meant for the entertainment business. My husband likes this book but like I said it's not my type. I would say this book is for men so yes I would recommend it a guy.

cut through platitudes and replace them with truth
I love Rick and Bubba. From the first time I saw them on the now-defunct TurnerSouth television station (back when I still watched TV) I loved them. Their show was then, as it is now (on radio and streaming on the internet) an odd-mix of down-home humor, lots of stories, commentaries on society (and anything else that catches the boyâÂÂs attention) and a look into their day-to-day lives that is all mixed with their strong faith in God. Strangely enough, the show works.
So does this book. Who they are and why they are is mixed up and tossed together with much self-depreciating humor and a BIG dose of faith.
Rick details his journey from cultural Christianity to true Christianity. Bubba details how faith has always been the bedrock of his life. They mix it all up with verbal snapshots: where theyâÂÂve been, what theyâÂÂve done, how it has all worked out.Together, these two nobodies pooled their faith and their talent and worked hard to become somebodies and they believe that it was all by GodâÂÂs grace and for His glory.
That was especially true when Cornbread died.
Cornbread, the affectionate nickname of RickâÂÂs youngest child, Bronner, devastated family and friends when he drowned in the family pool. What happened next amazed everybody: Rick, shook to his core, refused to accept that God had somehow wronged him; instead, he used the death of his beloved son to tell mourners at CornbreadâÂÂs funeral about the death of GodâÂÂs only Son, of GodâÂÂs greatness and of His worthinessâ¦even in the midst of an unthinkable trial.
Through their stories of this and other trials theyâÂÂve faced, Rick and Bubba cut through platitudes and replace them with truth: God is worthyâ¦no matter what; God is goodâ¦no matter what.
This book is enjoyable and inspirational on many levels. Are you interested in seeing genuine faith function in the midst of devastating trials? Read this. Are you interested in reading about two men who put the old-fashioned work ethic into action? Read this book. Want an inspiring autobiography? You got it, read this book. Perhaps you would be more interested in hearing about the ins-and-outs of a career in radio? Ah, yes, read this book. Want a good dose of down-home humor? Read this book.
You wonâÂÂt regret it.

An easy, enjoyable read!
Our local radio station carried the Rick and Bubba show several years ago, so I was familiar with them and with the fact that they are Christians. I have previously reviewed another book they authored about marriage, which I had enjoyed reading, so I decided to request this one as well. IâÂÂm happy to say that it was just as humorous, poignant, and enjoyable.
In this book, Rick and Bubba share stories spanning from their childhood to the present which illustrate how God has orchestrated their lives and circumstances to bring about the popular morning radio show of which they are hosts. Despite the skepticism of many radio experts, their vision of a show about real people with more talk than music, and honesty concerning their Christian faith, the program has become one of the most successful syndicated radio programs of all time.
The book is an easy read. They not only share the humorous parts of their lives, but they allow us to have a view into the tragedies of their lives and how all of these things shaped them into who they are today. In addition to the written account, they also share some great photos that give you a window into their lives from childhood to the present. Even if you have never heard the Rick and Bubba show, you will still enjoy reading about how these two men have grown in their faith as Christians, and how their remaining true to what they believed would honor God in their lives and business has been a blessing not only for them but for their listeners.
