If you are planning to buy for the first time or have bought several homes; this is a must see! It breaks everything down to the most minute detail and is a book that will help you explain to others how to wisely choose, manage, and pay off your existing mortgage quicker. Personally, I have purchased 2 homes and 2 investment properties over the years. I know quite a bit about mortgages, how financing works, and how to get deals. I also know how to buy from a business stand-point, rather than from a foolish (and dangerous) emotional stand-point. With this background in mind, I thought this would be a fun book to read. I thought it would be about the current mortgage crisis and offer a way to help, those who are suffering, out of their drowning debt. Well, it was all this and more! I was amazed with Rob's concern, understanding and his inspiring ideas about money, spending and budgeting in general.While you will get a great education about mortgages, in this book, you will also learn about finances in all areas of life. Here are some highlights:1. "Everything you buy is going to go out of fashion, fade away, rust, or end up in the junk heap." (p. 73)2. "What led to the credit crisis in the first place is financially irresponsible living. Let's not blame the system - we're the ones who should have said no and saved for a rainy day." (p. 47)3. "A society that doesn't live within its means eventually has to pay the price." (p. 44)4. "Unfortunately, mortgages are delivered through a system that will trap you in perpetual debt if you allow yourself to be caught off guard."5. "Instant gratification is your enemy, and a slow and steady pace is your friend." (p. 14)This book is 300 pages and a wealth of knowledge. I highly recommend it!

Who isnt a little confused when it comes to mortgages? In this book, the author breaks down the behind-the-scenes action of what goes into a mortgage and how to make sure you realize your options. As Americans, we take a lot of things for granted, but this area can definitely be the most costly decision you will ever make, so make it wisely!Robert Bernabes Mind Your Own Mortgage is a thorough guide for anyone looking to buy a home or those interested in refinancing their current loan. At times it was almost too much information. I wish I had known this before purchasing my home and will recommend this as required reading for all my friends when they go to buy their first home. The only drawback to the book I see is that you have to be interested in finance or this book wont hold your attention for long. But trust me, it is worth the read, it could literally save you thousands of dollars!Disclosure Note: Thomas Nelson has been gracious enough to give me a complimentary copy of this book for review purposes. This is a must read for anyone in the market for a new mortgage, anyone looking to refinance an existing mortgage, or anyone who thinks they ever will be. I wish I had this to read before I committed to a mortgage because it is honest and insightful. There is so much great information in this book, and it takes you from the very first steps (before you ever walk into a bank), right through to how and why you should pay off your mortgage. With the rampant excessive consumerism that has led our country to financial crisis, it is imperative that we educate ourselves about one of the biggest debts most people will ever take on. I know I personally feel bombarded with messages that communicate that I should buy, buy, buy.even those things I can not afford. It is so easy to get sucked into that mentality, and find yourself drowning in debt. And the really sad part is that the things that put us in debt fail to provide any level of joy or comfort that could ever compare to the level of stress that living in debt causes. The author of this book is a voice of wisdom in this culture of excess. He provides both basic information on mortgage loans, as well as up to date details particular to the crisis we are currently in. If you already have a mortgage, this book provides great advise and practical tips on how to pay your mortgage off in the most financially intelligent way possible. If you want to be in control of your mortgage instead of feeling like it has control over you, this book will help.
