I was really excited about this book after reading the first in its series, Forbidden. I thoroughly enjoyed the Circle Trilogy and Forbidden was very similar in its style but very different in it storyline. However, I found myself dragging through Mortal to the point where I am not as excited to finish the series. This book seemed to just drag on and on. Furthermore, the Christ character in the story, Jonathon, was very mystical. If you read this book as a Christian, try not to read too much into Jonathon as a type of Christ. If you try to, you will be very disappointed, maybe even angered. But it is also a work of fiction and is evangelistic in that it seeks to present the gospel in a very cryptic and symbolic way. Hopefully, the reader will be challenged in some way.
