Utilizing God's timeless principles to orient your use of money around His purpose for your life will put you on solid financial footing. Money, Purpose, Joy will help you clarify your purpose and teach you a practical, biblical process for using money to fulfill that purpose.
Matt Bell is a popular personal finance speaker and writer. A prodigal-son experience changed the direction of his life, giving him a passion to teach others how to manage money well. Today Matt speaks at churches, businesses, and other venues; serves on the national strategy team for the Willow Creek Associations Good Sense Ministry; writes three e-newsletters; and has been quoted in major media, such as U.S. News & World Report and the Chicago Tribune .
Matt Bell has served nearly 20 years as a seminar leader for Good $ense, a Willow-Creek based ministry that teaches biblical principles of money management. In 2005 he left his corporate job to focus full-time on helping people learn to manage their money in a way that matches their life purpose and fosters financial peace, joy, and "uncommon financial success."

If you’re looking for a no-frills A–Z book with just the basics to help
you balance your checkbook, don’t buy this book. However, if you’d
like a fellow traveler to help you along the path to financial
understanding, peace of mind, and service to God with your
finances, then this is the book for you. Matt Bell is a prodigal who
understands the grace of God, the principles of God, and how to
communicate them in a practical, fun, and relational way. Matt helps
you find God’s plan for your life and your money, and this book
should be your first investment! - Steve Moore, cohost and vice president of
broadcasting, Money Matters, Crown Financial Ministries
Matt Bell is, I believe, one of today’s outstanding communicators.
He has written a book that is, first of all, personal in nature as
opposed to theoretical. As a consequence, this book is very
relevant and practical to anyone who reads it and is a tremendous
integration of faith and finances. This book will undoubtedly have a
99 long life; I recommend it enthusiastically. - Ron Blue, president, Kingdom
Advisors
You hold in your hands a book of joy! Like two old friends, money
and joy meet up again when you let Matt Bell free you to use money
as an expression of the generous heart God has already given you. - Dr. Bruce McNicol, president, Leadership Catalyst; author of TrueFaced, and Bo's
Café.
This book provides a pathway toward financial freedom and joy.
Matt Bell grounds his work in scriptural truth and weaves his own
journey with money throughout each chapter. I can't imagine a more
relevant issue in our time than the challenge to manage our
resources so that God is honored, we are at peace, and we
experience the fulfillment of contributing to the needs of our broken
world. - Nancy Beach, executive vice president of programming and
production, Willow Creek Community Church
There are books, magazines, movies, and even songs about
money, yet money remains something of a mystery to many people.
Matt demystifies the subject by showing how to connect our use of
money with all that makes life meaningful. - Jackson Crum, senior pastor, Park
Community Church, Chicago

Reviewed by Tracy in TN (Tennessee), March 16, 2009 It has been an encouragement for me to read, “Money, Purpose, Joy: The Proven Path to Uncommon Financial Success.” I was not familiar with the book’s author, Matt Bell, but he has a new fan now! It is said, “your misery becomes your ministry” and I believe Matt is an example of that as he begins the book with a relatable testimony that explains how he became an authority on the subject.
I appreciated practical aspects of an informative book such as this in terms of providing an outline of what the reader will study as they read, along with end-of-chapter summary points and questions to consider/tasks to perform. In addition, Matt offers fill in the blank worksheets and forms which are effective tools for the audience to utilize.
I was specifically encouraged by all the helpful advice about ways to manage our finances. It was written in terms that are easy to comprehend, and even provided interesting perspectives on how to think about, and be in control of, money. Added to basic, yet sound, money management lessons is back-up from Scripture which offers further evidence of how God intended us to be financially responsible.
This is a book that everyone can benefit from, but particularly teenagers and young adults, as it gives important life lessons that may help younger readers prevent financial crisis from happening to them. For those who may already be suffering financial woes, Matt’s book can help! 5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed by Skip Galanes (Medford, MA), October 25, 2008 This book strikes an excellent balance in presenting a series of practical financial choices that everyone faces in our day to day lives in the context of scriptural priorities. Especially in light of the current turmoil on Wall Street and Main Street, this is a “must read” in emphasizing a framework where we set our priorities and then arrange our giving, saving, and spending patterns to be consistent with our stated goals. Thank you, Matt, for the great clarity in which this is presented and the down to earth examples you use in illustrating the options people have in arranging their finances. 5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed by April Schnardthorst (St. Louis, MO), October 22, 2008 Overall this is an outstanding book. Very easy to read with great personal stories and practical financial insight. There are guides to tracking spending, living on a budget, and doing it all with long-term life goals as the ultimate target. Really makes the reader stop and consider what life is all about and then plan financial issues around life. I am often turned off by the reference of companies, websites, and such. But many of the recommendations in this book are so practical that I don't think I would remove any. So very nice use. Also, quotations from various people, books, and movies are right on target for driving home points in a very relevant way. This keeps the reader engaged. I'm recommending this book to everyone.
