Simple, Practical Financial Advice Your Money GodÃ¢ÂÂs Way deals with the questions of financial stewardship, debt, and savings. As these issues have become major concerns for our society, then they in turn become major concerns for our churches. ThereÃ¢ÂÂs no magic to attending church that protects you from financial concerns. Sometimes money worries can even be exacerbated by the church when Christians buy into certain horrible myths and thought processes about money. Rev. Amie Streater looks to correct these Ã¢ÂÂcounterfeit claimsÃ¢ÂÂ by replacing them with Ã¢ÂÂtimeless truths.Ã¢ÂÂ The book is very strong on practical advice. Rev. Streater introduces some of various pitfalls in which people find themselves and then offers simple, concrete steps on how to start working your way out. The church talks a lot about tithing and stewardship. This book suggests ways to live it. The only potential negative I would offer is you should be sure to know Rev StreaterÃ¢ÂÂs target audience before reading. The people she sees are in situations of financial distress. While there are some good tips for those simply looking for budgeting advice, most of her rhetoric is focused on those individuals who find themselves in deep debt. This book is a book on stewardship As I review this book Ã¢ÂÂYour Money GodÃ¢ÂÂs WayÃ¢ÂÂ by author Amie Streater I see a different approach to money management education. The author writes from experience and focuses on seven money myths or misconceptions which keep believers under financial bondage. Although the book is targeting Christians, the principles shared are for everyone. February 16, 2011

Book Review: Your Money God's Way by Amie Streater In Your Money GodÃ¢ÂÂs Way, author Amie Streater takes a slightly different approach to the subject of money & money management. Rather than focusing solely on money management methodology, she zeroÃ¢ÂÂs in on the underlying paradigms that our spending behaviours flow out of. She addresses various "counterfeit convictions" which cause many believers to become poor stewards of the money God entrusts to them and counteracts those deceptions with the liberating truth of God's Word. She does this in a very direct and straightforward manner. Speaking from personal experience, Amie Streater has seen (and used) every trick and excuse in the book and does not yield to a false sympathy. However, she comes as one who has been there, done that, bought the t-shirt and made it through to the other side. She also counter-balances this directness with encouragement and hope. I found myself relating to many of the same stories and situations, as I'm sure you will to. This is no reason to shy away, but a challenge to learn to address the situation head-on and find victory in the area of finances. A thought provoking read which will again stir and challenge you as you address this vitally important topic of money as it relates to Christianity and godly stewardship. February 9, 2011

Blunt but in a good way In the 16 years I have been reading about personal finance (specifically, debt-free living), I have read a lot of books, studies, articles and scriptures on the topic and have gathered a ton of tips and advice. And after the umpteenth book, I've been tempted to conclude, "You've read one get-out-of-debt-book, you've read them all." Amie Streater's "Your Money God's Way: Overcoming the 7 Money Myths that Keep Christians Broke" is different. But in a surprising way. She uses words like "stupid," "annoying" and "creeped out." The woman doesn't pull any punches. She tells it like it is. But once you get over the shock of reading sentences such as, "That's the stupidest thing I have ever heard!" you grow to appreciate her candor. She's the Dr. Phil of Christian debt counseling. And, yes, she is a Christian counselor - an "associate pastor for financial stewardship" who has met with countless individuals and couples who have screwed up their lives with bad money decisions. (Haven't we all screwed up royally in one way or another?) Streater's style may be blunt, but she offers solutions. She points out our "counterfeit convictions" and counters them with biblical wisdom, citing scripture to back up her advice. Many of those verses talk of God's grace and his abundant love for us. He doesn't want us to "live in chaos, frustration, lack, and debt," she concludes. And Streater doesn't just talk the talk. She has walked the walk and lived to tell about it. After all, God uses the fears and foibles we have overcome (with His help) to lead others to the light. This book gives light. You'll profit by reading it.
