This review was written for Busy Mom's Guide to Parenting Young Children.
This little book from Focus on the Family is a question and answer format of common parenting questions. How do I know my baby is getting enough milk? Why does my baby wake up so much? What is colic? How do I introduce solid foods? How and when to start potty training? What are safety concerns/baby-proofing for this age? How should a two year old interact with other children? After having read piles of baby care books in the first year of motherhood, I can say that this book says much of the same, though in a fairly compact format.

Most of these answers are fairly standard and would be seen in any traditional parenting book. I was surprised that a traditional parenting company like Focus would address co-sleeping and bed-sharing with anything other than an admonition not to. However, they provide the CPSC warning against bed-sharing, but go on to outline safety recommendations for parents who choose to share a bed with their infant. Other attachment parenting philosophies, such as babywearing, are not addressed.

Discipline can be a touchy issue in parenting circles. This book suggests that toddler discipline should consist primarily of time-outs and the withholding of privileges. Spankings are suggested only in cases of willful defiance (as opposed to childish irresponsibility), so those who are against spanking should be forewarned of the differing philosophy.

Overall, this book could be handy for new parents who want a broad overview of life with the under-two set. It's no new news, but it has some helpful tips for first-timers.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for review purposes. I received no other compensation for my honest review.
