I really liked the first story and liked each story after that a little less than the one before.
Since I've been to Hannibal, it's easy to imagine a mansion overlooking the river. So I liked the intertwining house feature of the novella.

I always enjoy the Novella format. I enjoyed 3 of the 4 stories. If there has only been the 3 stories I liked this would have been 5 starts. I did not enjoy the Vietnam story at all. I found it very unbelieveable. It was difficult to get through. The other 3 were a joy to read. Once I started reading I didn't want to put down until I finished.

Im a romantic. When I see a grand old home, I stop to daydream about who lived there and what their lives were like. This collection of novellas did just that. The common thread is the house and what happened therein. I loved how the stories followed one another in a different time period with altogether different characters from unrelated families. Each novella was well-written with characters I cared about. Often in a collection like this, one story stands out above the others. Not so in this collection. I enjoyed each one as well as the one before it. I have to say Missouri Memories is the best novella collection Ive read to date, and I give it a very high recommendation.
