"The Holy Spirit in Mission" is a great read for anyone but a must read for pastors and church leaders. As a pastor, this book was both inspirational and formational in birthing a 10-year vision for me and our church.

Tyra presents a clear theology of the Holy Spirit using the Luke-Acts model for ministry in the post-Christian era. He uses Ananias being led by the Spirit to pray for Paul (Acts 9) as a benchmark and model for the Spirit led life. Rather than an occasional experience this should be a vibrant daily mission. Tyra suggests that all Spirit filled believers, whether they self-identify as Pentecostals or charismatic or not, "Possess the capacity to hear God's voice, receive ministry assignments, speak and act on Christ's behalf, make disciples and build up the church..."

As a scholarly work Tyra delivers a challenging proposition with excellent citations and ample quotes to support his proposition. Until now we have lacked a strong missional pneumatology. I believe "Holy Spirit in Mission" fills that need.

A highlight for me personally is Tyra's use of the term "prophetic evangelism." He says, "Prophetic evangelism refers to sermons (verbal presentations of the gospel) and acts of compassion that tend to be delivered in an extemporaneous and spontaneous manner as a result of an explicit sense that the disciple is being prompted by the Holy Spirit to do so in a particular way at a particular time."

As we studied and prayed over this concept it caught fire in our congregation. We are literally living out the subtitle of the book, "Prophetic Speech and Action in Christian Witness."
