Suspicion, hatred and killing was what marked the Shuar and Atshuar Indians. The first missionaries in the Ecuadorian Rainforest Frank & Marie were committed to bringing about life changes in these tribes by seeking to communicate forgiveness of sin and new life which could be found in Christ. Frank and Marie Drown prepared the way for Jim Elliott, Nate Saint and their colleagues. Frank was the person who discovered their bodies.
Marcia Washburn5 Stars Out Of 5Great story of God's work in EcuadorDecember 23, 2011Marcia WashburnQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I first read Mission to the Headhunters in 2006 while anticipating a trip to the same area Frank Drown describes in this book. What a delight to find that it is a well-written page-turner, covering decades of God's work among the Shuar, Achuar, and Waodoni (formerly known as as Auca) peoples. People who once pursued vengeance, spearing their enemies, now walk in God's ways. Drown's detailed, and often humorous, descriptions of their work make this a great read. I have purchased and given away several copies through the years and am delighted that it is still in print for a new generation. For those familiar with the 1956 martyrdom of five young American missionaries in the area, this book adds another layer of detail. Drown led the search party for the men. The cover photo was taken at that time. Highly recommended!
