Series: Lauren Holbrook
Lauren sets out to introduce Nick, her carefree singles' pastor, to Ruby, her neurotic coworker who plans every second of every day. What could possibly go wrong? Just about everything.
The book begins as a modern day mimic of Jane Austens Emma, but progresses past this original premise to develop an attitude and action all Lauren Holbrooks. The more I read the book, the more I found myself drawn into the actions, events, and conversations of this borrowed social circle. The most striking aspect of Mangums book is her ability to push humor past the predictable. Many times, a slight twist in a predictably funny scene changed my quiet entertainment into genuine, out-loud laughter.
From beginning to end of Miss Match, Lauren sifts through everyone she knows to bring together the perfect couples. Her employer and long-time friend, Brandon, watches her attempts to set up Ruby and Nick with scornful amusement. Hannah, the secretary at the studio where Lauren works, also joins in. As Lauren watches her plans unfold only to crumple under the stress of everyday life and misunderstanding, she questions if it is her place to prod along other peoples relationships. Despite her uncertainties, Lauren launches ahead through extravagant evenings, failed dates, and even a fake relationship with Rubys brother to see her friends happy together.
It is through these elaborate schemes that readers meet the energetic, highly caffeinated Lauren Holbrook, known by most of the people around her as a quick-witted kindred spirit. Fortunately, Mangum incorporates a deeper, deliberative side to Laurens character as she struggles to find Gods will in her life. By the end of the book, these two sides merge to form a more mature, understanding Lauren Holbrook than the one presented at the beginning.
After reading Miss Match, I feel as though coffee with Lauren might taste better and that I would be comfortable going out to dinner with her friends. Unexpectedly, Mangums ultimate goal in this novel does not seem to be a condemnation for all matchmaking or even a rulebook for singles to live by. Instead, she challenges readers to think about Gods sovereignty in their own lives through Lauren Holbrooks friends, decisions, and cravings for caffeine. Natalie Myers, Christian Book Previews.com

Brittany ParksAge: Under 18Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5May 21, 2010Brittany ParksAge: Under 18Gender: femalePhotographer, friend, sister, and now match maker. Lauren Holbrook understands God has matrimonial plans for some singles. Her belief is that the good Lord doesnt mind her helping out. After all, she slightly pushed her sister and new brother-in-law together. In six months, maybe, seven shell have successfully brought together another couple. Laurie would happily meddle in more singles lives if Brandon would stay out of it. He has been her best friend since second grade, and he talked about the someday marriage becoming less and less on the someday part. Laurie doesnt want to get married. She doesnt want Brandon too either. Because once he finds a girlfriend, she wont like Brandon and Laurie being so close. Hannah, the new secretary, might be the perfect match for him Laurie is seeing a dearly beloved possibility. Her own life takes a romantic spin when she agrees to fake date Construction Sam and could she possibly be falling for him? No, that cant be possible. The weird feeling shes having must be from the bad food at Halias. I couldnt put it down, and I couldnt stop smiling. Its a chick-flick movie written out. Im not ashamed to say I finished it within twenty-four hours. (Check out more of my reviews under TEEN REVIEWS at www.christianromancemagazine.com)

CKendall5 Stars Out Of 5March 14, 2010CKendallTwenty-three year old Lauren Holbrook is single, lives with her dad and couldnt be happier, but one of her favorite hobbies is matchmaking. Lauren never wants to get married, but she loves to see her friends find true love, especially when she has something to do with it. Her latest project is trying to match her coworker Ruby together with her Bible study teacher Nick. This proves to be a challenge, not only to Lauren, but to Ruby and Nick as well. Adding to this challenge is Laurens new found confusion about her plan to never get married.Life has been a little stressful for me lately and I have found that I have not been enjoying heavy or serious stories much and I was looking for something light and more importantly, funny. Miss Match was the answer. I was absolutely delighted by this story, and especially by Lauren. Her character was such a treat and so very likeable. At first, I found her a bit annoying, but the more I got to know her, the more I wanted to read. One of this books strongest points is the dialogue, especially the dialogue between Lauren and her best friend Brandon. They were very good friends, but their teasing was funny and natural. Lauren is sassy and funny and adorable. Miss Match is the first book in the Lauren Holbrook series and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series one of these days. I think Erynn Mangum is a writer whose books I will seek out in the future. I really enjoyed Miss Match and I strongly recommend it if your life needs a little comic relief.

Tell us a little about yourself. I'm 22, I love Christ with all my heart. I'm a major chocoholic and an even bigger caffeine addict. I love hanging out with girls of any age, I love reading, writing, watching sappy chick flicks, eating Oreos with ice cream, the last few swallows of a caramel Frappucino, daisies, anything pink and spending time with my unbelievable family.
What was your motivation behind this project? I started writing just for fun. So, I hope that this book is something fun to read!
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Above all else, I hope Miss Match makes you laugh and reminds you of God's unfailing love. And that you'll be inspired to get a cup of coffee while you're reading! :)
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Hard question because there are so many! Most of all, Christ is everything to me. My family has definitely encouraged and inspired me - my parents are amazing and my siblings are the best out there. My college group has always provided me with a lot of inspiration (read: fodder. Sorry guys!). Favorite authors? Way too many to name!!
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I absolutely love hearing from you! I hope you'll visit my website at www.erynnmangum.com and send me an email!
