Les Miserables - Focus on the Family Radio Theatre audiodrama on CD
Great acting and quality!
I love Les Miserables. I love the story, I love the musical (I just had the opportunity to be in it,) and I love just about anything having to do with it. As you can imagine, I was so excited when this audio book came up for review since I also happen to LOVE Focus on the Family and their audio books. All excited, I inserted the first CD into my player.
And I was not disappointed.
Wonderful narration, brilliant acting... this audio book did great justice to Victor Hugo's story. Being an audio book, they couldn't fit the entire story in, and that may throw some people off. But if you let yourself appreciate the work for what it is: a wonderful, enjoyable adaptation, there shouldn't be a problem.
I highly recommend this, and any other Focus on the Family audio books. It really does bring the story to life in a fantastic way. I hope that you'll buy this audio book for yourself to see how nice it is. Thank you Tyndale for giving me the opportunity to review it!

Fresh and Fulfilling Audio Drama
Being thrilled with the Focus on the Family radio theatre adaptation of the Chronicles of Narnia, I jumped at the chance to listen to their version of Victor HugoâÂÂs classic tale. Having seen the musical several times and watched the newest movie, I thought I knew the story well. I was in for a surprise. This radio drama brings in many aspects of the book that are left out of the Broadway and Hollywood versions that better develop the themes of redemption and mercy. I was blown away!
While I realize that this is a family-friendly version of the story, I was disappointed that this adaptation denies that Fantine had to descend to the depths to keep her daughter and herself alive. Fantine and Valjean on several occasions skirt around the issue, lead the listener to believe that she is innocent of any such claim, and never deal with how she survived after being fired from the factory. I would not want graphic details included, but I believe it could have been addressed in a âÂÂsafe for family listeningâ way to further develop the themes.
The cast is strong, the background sound effects are not overdone and the score is fitting (although difficult to get used to when you have the original score memorized). There are 3 CDs and the story is 169 minutes long â it could have been longer! It was my middle school children who kept begging to put the story back on while on a recent road trip â they loved it! This is a wonderful adaptation of Les Miserables and is a must have audio book for your next road trip!
I give this audiobook 5 stars out of 5.
I received this book free from Tyndale House Publishers. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

This audio adaptation is fascinating and a delight to hear. It was recorded in London and has a professional cast who did an incredible job.
The main character in the story is Jean Valjean. He is an ex-convict who cannot ever escape his past. No matter what he tries to do in life, he seems to be always hunted and accused, because he was once a prisoner. In the beginning, he meets with a kind couple whose hospitality and compassion help him make a new start in life. Eventually, he builds up a new reputation, under a new name, and has a tremendous influence for good in his community. His riches, and charity in life are amazing. But what is most precious, is his unselfish character and actions.
This is an epic story, highly inspiring and an excellent production. Listening to the story on audio CD was relaxing and a wonderful break from watching a movie on television. I highly recommend this radio theater presentation.

Wonderful way for your family to enjoy the classic
Les Misérables (Radio Theatre)
Les Misérables by Victor Hugo brought to life byàFocus Audio drama:
After finishing this audio drama of Les Misérables, I am trying not to cry! IâÂÂm at my daughtersâ dance class, so excuse me as I head to the bathroom to pull myself together...
Les Misérables is a powerful story of one extraordinary kindness that changes an man, the angry exconvict Jean Valjean. He then lives his live with all itâÂÂs shocking twists and turns in forgiveness, extending grace to others. It is an amazing story to which I am drawn. So, having the chance to to review FocusâÂÂs audio drama of Les Misérable is a wonderful opportunity. My family already has some experience with Focusâ audio productions through Adventures in Odyssey (we are HUGE fan of AIO!!) and their audio production of Narnia (that was amazing!!).
And I was not disappointed in this production. ItâÂÂs not an unabridged reading of the book, which isnâÂÂt a surprise. All dramatic productions of Les Misérables, whether radio, theatre, or screen, have had to condense for time. However, the heart of this beautiful story is full and clear. The actors were excellent and very convincing as their characters. The music was beautiful and perfectly added, not to distract but to add to the emotions of the story. Through the sound effects I was pulled even more into the action. The only thing I would change is that I wasnâÂÂt able to listen to it all in one sitting. I definitely would recommend that as much as possible. And that is what I plan to do -- re-listen to it without breaking it up.
What a wonderful way to introduce this classic to your family!
