Tell us a little about yourself. I've been a pastor in U.S. churches and a
missionary teacher in a Christian University in
the former Soviet Union. I currectly pastor a
church in Minnesota.
What was your motivation behind this project? The idea began as I searched for a basic
theology to go over with my two sons, who were
in their mid-teens. They were well beyond the
basic children's stories, but not ready for
heavy-duty theologies. I needed something in
between -- a book that taught basic doctrine in
brief, understandable sections. I discovered
that most books for teens were light, fluffy
devotionals. Youth pastors and parents urged me
to write a book to help fill the gap, so I did.
A second incentive is that many American
Christians find less and less teaching available
in our churches. But few have the time or
inclination to dig through the more massive
theologies. So I hope 5 MINUTE THEOLOGIAN is
helpful for all ages.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope teens and adults alike will gain a better
understanding of core Christian doctrine, and
then be motivated to move on to more in-depth
study of the Christian faith.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Among many others, I'm thankful for Jonathan
Edwards, John Piper and Francis Schaeffer.
Schaeffer took lofty ideas and brought them down
for ordinary folks to understand. I hope to do
something like that with 5 MINUTE THEOLOGIAN.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Two more books will follow in this series: 5
MINUTE APOLOGIST and 5 MINUTE CHURCH HISTORIAN.
