Located in: St. Paul, Minnesota Submitted: January 06, 2005 Tell us a little about yourself. I've been a pastor in the U.S. and a missionary teacher in a Christian University in the former Soviet Union. At present I am helping to start a Christian University in Asia. What was your motivation behind this project? The idea began as I searched for basic teaching materials in theology, apologetics and church history to use with my two sons, who were in their mid-teens. They were well beyond the basic children's stories, but not ready for heavy-duty sources. I needed something in between -- books that taught basic doctrine, apologetics, and church history in brief, understandable sections. I discovered that most books for teens were light, fluffy devotionals. Youth pastors and parents urged me to write a book (which grew into three) to help fill the gap, so I did. A second incentive is that many American Christians find almost no apologetics training in our churches. But few have the time or inclination to dig through the more massive and sometimes complex works. I hope 5 MINUTE APOLOGIST is helpful. What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope teens and adults alike will gain a better understanding of simple arguments to defend our faith, and then be motivated to move on to more in-depth study and use of apologietics. Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Among many others, I'm thankful for Jonathan Edwards, John Piper and Francis Schaeffer. Schaeffer took lofty ideas and brought them down for ordinary people to understand. I hope to do something like that with 5 MINUTE APOLOGIST. Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: 5 MINUTE THEOLOGIAN is already out, and 5 MINUTE CHURCH HISTORIAN will soon follow. Find Related Products |
