Or So She Thinks!
Molly Zook's always liked being in control, so she's struggling with her mother's wish that, to save the family farm, she marry Mervin Mosier. Especially after Molly meets Leon Fisher. He's from Montana but is now training horses at a nearby ranch. He's tall and muscular and confident--Molly has never met anyone like him and she's sure he feels the same about her.
Determined to let nothing get between them, Molly tries to coax Mervin into falling back in love with Molly's best friend, Hannah. A weekend camping trip in the Poconos could be just the place...but things quickly go awry, and it seems Leon and Hannah might be falling for each other instead! Will Molly keep struggling to control everyone and everything around her? Or will she learn to let God handle the twists and turns of her life?
Tina W5 Stars Out Of 5I am still LOVING this series, so YES, I loved this book too.January 1, 2015Tina WQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Leslie Gould does an amazing job at writing and her descriptions are so detailed that she brings the characters to life along with their surroundings. If you like experiencing books like this then this series is for you.
This book deals with a lot of different happenings, experiences, but it's how the Amish characters handle that overwhelming everyday life with their trust in God along with romance thrown in the mix. Being friends with our best friends and trusting them. Making the right choices for one's self, for one's family, for one's business, for one's future. One choice can change the whole course of life. Can change the course of others around us. Making the right choices for yourself and for your family is challenging, but are we willing to listen to God and follow his path for our lives?
Minding Molly is just that minding Molly. Molly has mostly been in control of her life and whether others in her family knew it or not she was controlling them too. When her fathers passed away, Molly stepped up the plate in taking care of the business in the everyday operation of running a nursery farm.
When Molly's mother, Anna, calls in her step-son, Ivan, to look at the books to see how they are financially in the business. They all get a shock, but Molly is set with a big determination. But will she be given the chance to prove herself that she can make money?
Does Molly push her family and friends away with her big determination?

Scary because Molly reminded me much of myself with her desire to control and her frustration with the people that won't listen. OK, so I am not as organized as Molly is, chore charts? Nope, nuh uh.
Until Minding Molly I had only read the Amish stories that Leslie Gould co-wrote. I'm really glad I picked up this book and I think I'm going to try and read the previous books in the series. And also you never know, I just might read a little Shakespeare, part of the inspiration for this book, too.
You know, I was a little surprised by this book. One thing you don't see very often in Amish stories is depression and/or mental health issues. I liked how Leslie Gould handled it with honesty and sensitivity.
This was a great Amish coming of age story. Molly is already a responsible girl but she has a lot of growing up to do and with the help of family, friends, a fella from Montana, and a horse, she does just that.

Mrs ARS5 Stars Out Of 5I really felt for MollyJune 12, 2014Mrs ARSQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5In the pages of Minding Molly we step into an Amish community taking a slower pace in life. At first glance, the book seems like a whimsical retelling of A Midsummer Night's Dream. However, there is a lot more to the story than the similarities with William Shakespeare's play. Molly Zook is still dealing months later from the death of her father. Her whole family is. Not only that but their flower business is hurting and they may have to sell the farm, also, her mother is showing signs of not being well. So with mounting medical debt, and the desire not to lose the farm, Molly's mother hatches a plan for Molly to marry Mervin, their next door neighbor who also works for them. While this seems plausible to Molly, she must first consider how her best friend Hannah would feel about this since she had been courting him. Before she can fully convince herself life would be good with Mervin, in walks a Montana fellow by the name of Leon who sweeps her off her feet. With an ex-beau showing up with a new girlfriend, Mervin and Leon vying for her hand, a very temperamental sister, and an angry best friend, Molly has her work cut out for her. Will she choose her heart's desire or do what is best for everybody else. I really did not know how Leslie Gould was going to end this. I was turning pages as quickly as I could to find out if Molly ever got her happily ever after. I received this book from The Book Club Network, Inc. and the opinions are my own.

However this can be read alone. It is not a traditional Amish book. The community is not as strict in its rules and the children have alot of freedom. Molly is a very strong ,determined character. Her mother wants her to marry to save the farm after her dad's death. Molly doesn't agree with her mother's choice. It makes for a very interesting book.

NanceeGrand Rapids, MichiganAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5The best laid plans....May 30, 2014NanceeGrand Rapids, MichiganAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Molly is a planner, an organizer down to the finest detail. Her family and friends have always relied on her to have events planned well in advance so that everything falls into place. Just 2 months prior her Dat died of a sudden heart attack, and life has become one big concern. Her mamm relies on her heavily since their loss, and her mamm's recent confusion has Molly worried. With their Amish flower farm in jeopardy Molly considers plans to keep them afloat, devastated that they could potentially lose their home and land. Molly's mamm has ideas for her to marry one of the neighbor twins in the hope that together the young couple could combine properties and keep their family farm, but Molly has eyes for another and a prospective plan of her own.
A camping trip for the young Amish teens has been planned down to the last detail, with job charts and teams assigned for their respective duties, but Molly fears leaving her mamm when she has medical tests scheduled. With her mamm in the care of her older stepbrother and stepsister, Molly and her Amish friends set out for their camping trip. Shortly after leaving, Molly's detailed planning has her friends irritable and telling her she's too bossy. Can she give up some of her control when she's put so much time and energy into making this trip successful and enjoyable? Does no one appreciate how hard she's worked? Will she hear God's voice calling for her attention?
Leslie Gould has created some wonderful characters for the cast of Minding Molly. There's great diversity in the personalities throughout this book, and wonderful creativity that the author displays through the events in this strong story. Molly's character is tenacious and believable with her penchant for being dubbed a "control freak." The realities of Amish life are well documented and the family unit is strong, with the plain life described with accuracy and discretion. Unique and penned in a likeness to Wm. Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," the author's Amish version of the story is filled with emotion that runs the gamut.
I've read the author's other books in The Courtships of Lancaster County, and have thoroughly enjoyed each one. Take a copy of Minding Molly camping with you or just sit and relax for a while, and enjoy the charm and wit throughout this entertaining book! This book is a stand alone novel, although you'll be missing out on some great reading if you miss the others in this entertaining series!
