As readers enter the colorful and unpredictable worlds of King Saul and King David, they will be swept up in this exciting and romantic story. Against the backdrop of opulent palace life, raging war, and desert escapes, Jill Eileen Smith takes her readers on an emotional roller-coaster ride as Michal deals with love, loss, and personal transformation as one of the wives of David. A sweeping tale of passion and drama, readers will love this amazing story.
The book begins with Michal as a young adolescent, in love with the shepherd boy who plays his harp to soothe her abusive and rage-filled father, King Saul. Michal is a very ambitious girl, who exploits her sister and conceives a plan to get her father to wed her to David. Her plots end up being unnecessary, for David falls madly in love with her. But then the tide of fate comes up against the two lovers when Sauls attitude toward David turns to jealousy and hatred. David must flee, leaving Michal to the frightening whims of her father and the plots of a certain guard. The focus of Michals faith journey is bitterness and bowing to the will of God. Michals life is full of loss, and she grows very bitter toward God. She also follows her own path and neglects the will of God. These things, though never mentioned by name until much later in the book, become the central theme of the novel.
The book follows the biblical account accurately, taking artistic license only with the characters and never with the facts. Smith only fills in the gaps when necessary, but otherwise remains true to the original story. Unfortunately, the first third of the book is singularly uninteresting and clichéd. Smith jars the readers with such corny phrases as his eyebrows hiked up a notch and in general seems to be a little confused as to what the setting is for her own novel. If, however, readers hold out until later chapters, they will be pleasantly surprised. Smiths storytelling experiences a slow take-off, but then rapidly improves. Smith shows herself to be up to the challenge of interpreting an exotic and unusual romance, and eventually shows her writing style to be anything but clichéd. By the end, the reader is left to wonder if Smith herself could have actually been responsible for the monotonous monstrosity that was the beginning of the book.
Overall, if readers remain patient, Michal is well worth reading. Kristina Vander Meer, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
Marlezeanne5 Stars Out Of 5Michal: eBook by Jill Eileen SmithMarch 4, 2015MarlezeanneQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. We all know the story of King David and his wife from the Bible, but this book gave a different and more personal perspective to the story. It was well researched, and the information (portrayed in the novel) was factually correct. It made the story come alive to me. I read the book in one sitting! Highly recommended.

It was very well writen. I really applaud Jill Eileen Smith because it cannot be easy to tale storiies from the bible and fill in the blanks to write a novel. What I especially liked about this book is that it really helps to sharpen your bible knowlegde as she mentions things in the bible I have read and sometimes forget. This is truly a wonderful book and I highly recommend it to others.

But when her father beings to have nightmares after disobeying Adonai, only the young harpist David can sooth the king's guilty conscience. Her attraction to David is undeniable, but it is with great disappointment that she realizes her sister Merab must be given in marriage first.
David becomes a great warrior from King Saul, to the point that the king seeks his life in the jealous rages that shadow his reign more and more frequently. When circumstances allow Michal to become David's first wife, has she just sentenced herself to a life of heartache and misery? Will David ever be the true king of God's people? Can she ever dream of being his queen?
This book is a dramatically beautiful re-imaging of the story of King David's first wife. Michal has always captured my imagination from the Biblical account. I've always wondered how it must have been for her; barren, given to another man by King Saul, and missing her true husband while he was a fugitive from her own father. How hard it must have been to be a woman during Old Testament times - and Smith breathes new life into a story that is centuries old. A good read for anyone that is interested in the could-have-beens of Michal's story.
