    The Masked Reviewer
Merlin is the second great book in the Pendragon Cycle series by Stephen Lawhead. It's been a while since I read it, so I don't quite remember all the details of what made it good (the Masked Reviewer shirk-eth his duty!), but I can say with confidence that this was very good. The third book, Arthur, is the first one that's really in the whole Arthurian legend vein, but as a set-up book, this does amazingly well. Lawhead neatly shelves the long, white bearded old spell-casting wizard and replaces him with a realistic man, one you can actually relate to. This book probably wouldn't do so great as a stand-alone, but as part of the Pendragon Cycle it is wonderful. DISCLAIMER: I probably should have put this on Taliesin, but I can't change that now. When this and similar books say "Adult Fiction," heed those words. I wouldn't recommend this to any pre-teens or younger. It's a great Christian book, but some things are a tad too graphic for younger people.
