Publisher's Description

Being hurt and heartbroken is a sad reality for most of us. But I'm so thankful for this treasure of a book written by my friend Suzie Eller. Page by page, Suzie will help you understand how God's truth can heal your pain so you can move forward whole and healed.
- Lysa TerKeurst, New York Times Bestselling Author and President of Proverbs 31 Ministries

Brokenness happens. Tragedy, sin or the painful choices of others all have the ability to disrupt an otherwise contented life. And as a result of our heartache, we often attempt to fix our own brokenness—with disastrous results.
If you've tried to heal, but keep ending up in the same place—whether the battle is in your heart or out in the open where everyone can see—The Mended Heart is for you. In this book, author Suzanne Eller tells it like it is: people throw quick fixes at you, or tell you to pull yourself up by your bootstraps (whatever that means). More important, though, she shares the powerful truth of Jesus' mission as outlined in Luke 4:18-21: He came to set free all those who are oppressed and in need of mending.
You don’t have to fix yourself—Jesus loves you right where you are. In fact, He has already completed the work that needs to be done. The Mended Heart will encourage you to trust Him, to give and receive grace, and to move ahead even stronger than before … even if others don’t move with you.

The message of The Mended Heart is especially uplifting. The author beautifully emphasizes the redemptive power of Jesus and his glorious triumph of overcoming the plight of this world—a much-needed message to those carrying the burden of their personal sufferings. As a biblical counselor, I repeatedly come face-to-face with clients bearing the weight of their own brokenness and in need of a “mended heart.”  Readers who have ever known strife caused by adversity and worry will find this book to be an invaluable read as they discover the battle has been won, by what Jesus has already done for us on the cross.

If you’ve ever felt too broken for God to fix, then The Mended Heart is for you. Suzie Eller takes you by the hand and guides you step-by-step toward the only Source that offers complete wholeness. Each chapter exclaims, “There’s no hurt God can’t heal.” Do yourself a favor. Read this book!

"What You Don't Have to Do," the first chapter in Suzanne Eller's The Mended Heart, hooked me. It wasn't one of those books that gives simplistic formulas to solve all problems and make us feel guilty because they don't work. Eller writes with a warm sensitivity as she touches the wounded places. She writes with compassion that helps us cope with the worst of pain—always reminding us that God's love mends our hearts.
Cecil Murphey, Author or co-author of more than 130 books, including I Believe in Heaven and I Believe in Healing, and bestsellers, 90 Minutes in Heaven and Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story.

In Mended Heart, Suzanne Eller holds her readers' broken hearts in tender hands as she layers healing truths about Jesus, the Healer. She skillfully communicates both the realities of our hurts—whether self-inflicted or caused by others—and the undeniable Hope for living whole again. Hope with a name--Jesus. Don't skip the questions and answers at the end of the book. Eller's empathy and practicality shine brightly in these "ask the author" pages.

The resiliency of the human spirit has always amazed me. Like when an F5 tornado rips through a town and a homeowner has the wherewithal to stand next to the wreckage of his house and talk to the news media. Something deep inside us rises to the surface at

those times and pushes us forward to pick up the pieces and start all over again.

I've talked to many people who have experienced a similar carnage in their spiritual life. Sin blows through and leaves a pile of rubble in its wake. But oftentimes those people can't find the resiliency needed to face the future. They think they are too far gone_past forgiveness_unlovable and useless in God's kingdom.

What I loved about Suzanne Eller‘s book, The Mended Heart: God's Healing for Your Broken Places is that she constantly reminds us that we are never too far gone for God's redemption. Drawing on her own journey with the Lord, as well as sharing the stories of women she knows, Suzanne encourages and challenges us to not sit on the pile of rubble, but to invite God in to do His work of healing. She is not afraid to confront some tough issues too, like how our hearts can be broken by the church or by our own sin. Because really these are the places where we get lost.

The truth is that none of us is past redemption. God isn't afraid of our sin, our pain, our questions. So there's truly no reason to try to hide. There's no reason not to let Him do His work in our lives.

It's not easy. I would never tell you that it is and Suzanne doesn't gloss over the hard work either. I remember the days when I thought the pain of the past surely wasn't as bad as the pain of the recovery process. But it was and it is. And Suzanne's words reminded me that in the pain of recovery, God was walking right by my side. I was not alone. You won't be either.

The good news is that when we allow God to take our broken hearts and mend them, we don't have to wait for our reward. The payoff is ours in the form of healing and wholeness. Not perfection. Not something we've done ourselves. But a work of God done in us that

results in a life we only dreamed of before. Suzanne says,

The time you spend in His presence_will gradually change how you think, which changes who you are in your thoughts, which will begin to reflect the words of Jesus imprinted on your heart.

Our God is big enough to handle anything uncovered in the rubble of your life. Maybe today you need to take just one step towards letting Him begin sifting through it all. Maybe reading Suzanne's book will be that step. Whatever it is, you won't regret it. I can promise you that!
