She divorces him without ever telling her twenty-one-year-old daughter why. Although Devvy has a heart change and desires for reconciliation, he dies before she can tell him of her desire. The daughter blames her mother for her father's death. Memories of a Dirt Road Town begins the story the following summer. Brokenhearted about her husband's death and her daughter's decision not to come home for the summer, Devvy decides to find a little dirt road town in Wyoming where she had vacationed as a child. She remembers fondly the sunset and a beautiful Roan horse. Upon arrival, Devvy purchases a Roan mare and a burro, rents a little cabin, and watches as God brings three very important men into her life.

Located in: Winchester, Idaho Submitted: September 14, 2006 Tell us a little about yourself. I live in a town of 308 people. (Winchester, Idaho) It's almost too big for me. I love remote places. The West gives me a chance to see people clearly . . . one at a time. I will always live out here. What was your motivation behind this project? I drove northwest out of Casper, Wyoming, turned down a dirt road and headed for the distant Big Horn Mountains. Right after I crossed a desolate railroad track I stumbled upon a tiny, dirt road town. At one glance, I could tell there was a story there. What do you hope folks will gain from this project? Develyn Worrel isn't going home . . . but she is going to search for a childhood memory. And she finds it! I'm hoping there are some good memories my readers and go back and find. You had some good days in the past...enjoy them again. Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Some people ask me, how are you able to write so well from a woman's point-of-view? I've spent over 42 years listening to thoughtful and wonderful wife who tells me everything in her mind. What a treasure she is. Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Develyn is an Indiana schoolteacher. I have great respect for the dedication and hard work of teaching kids. My grandma was an Indiana schoolteacher before she moved to California in the early 1900s. Find Related Products |
