The original Jesus was a secular figure, a utopian teacher of ethical wisdom. Cupitt argues that the core of Western culture is simply the old Christian spirituality extraverted, and that as such it is lowly takingt the logical outworking of its ethical teaching. Controversial? Yes. Compelling? Yes. Convincing? Well.that is up to you.

Publisher's Description

Don Cupitt proposes a reinterpretation of Christian history, arguing that the meaning of the West is not Catholic Christian, but radical Christian. The original Jesus was a secular figure, a utopian teacher of ethical wisdom. He argues that the core of Western culture is simply the old Christian spirituality extraverted. Today, Christian supernatural doctrine is dead, but the secular 'West' is Christianity itself is now emerging in its final, 'Kingdom' form.

I have read 3 of Don Cupitt's books, 1. The Meaning of the West: An Apologia for Secular Christianity Christianity, 2. Ethics in the last days of humanity, 3. Taking leave of God. Its clear this man has never really been a Born Again Believer. He is really an atheist masquerading as a Christian. After buying his books, I felt cheated, the books are full of a mix of New Age views, pseudo-physiology and quasi-philosophy. I can not recommend this author for real Christians. Save your money or find a real Christian author if you want to grow in Christ.
