I looked at a lot of beginning readers and settled on these for teaching reading to my daughter. I am so glad I did. These are wonderful for building confidence in a brand new reader. It only took a few weeks of phonics for her to get through the first book easily. She was 4 at the time, and was so excited to be reading her first book! We do not use the Mcruffy curriculum, but these are great with any phonics program. If your child really wants to make these his/her own, they could even color in the pictures. Great books.

My daughter is only 4 and learning how to read with these books. The pictures are great to depict what they are trying to read to make it easy for them to figure it out. She could sound out the words of the first book on her own the very first time she tried it. The quality is such that you could easily make these yourself, but the time and paper it would take wouldn't be worth it since they're so inexpensive. I'm very happy I purchased them. I was a little diappointed that a few of the stapled pages are ripping out after the first time reading them, but with some reinforcement they should be fine. My daughter also loves that she can color them in herself.
