R. C. Sproul (Drs, Free University of Amsterdam) serves as senior minister of preaching and teaching at Saint Andrews Chapel in Sanford, Florida, and is the founder and president of Ligonier Ministries. He has taught at numerous colleges and seminaries, has written over seventy books, and is featured daily on Renewing Your Mind, an international radio broadcast.

Sproul, well-known as a master theologian and extraordinary communicator, now shows that he is a powerful, insightful, helpful expository preacher. This collection of sermons is of great value for churches and Christians everywhere.

Sproul is a legend in our time. His preaching has held us in awe for half a century, and these pages represent the fruit of his latest exposition, coming as they do at the very peak of his abilities and insights. I am ecstatic at the prospect of reading the St. Andrew's Expositional Commentary series. It represents Reformed theology on fire, delivered from a pastor's heart in a vibrant congregation of our time. Essential reading.

Since stepping into the pulpit of St. Andrew's and committing himself to the weekly discipline of biblical exposition, this noted preacher has demonstrated a rare ability to explicate and apply God's Word. I wholeheartedly recommend the St. Andrew's Expositional Commentary series to all who long to know the truth better and experience it more deeply in a life-changing fashion. Here is an indispensable tool for digging deeper into Gods Word. This is a must-read for every Christian.

parkerj5 Stars Out Of 5Very Good CommentaryMay 2, 2013parkerjQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5In the realm of teaching RC Sproul is at the top of the list. His Renewing Your Mind radio broadcast is a favorite of mine because of the clarity with which he teaches as well as the broad range of topics discussed. But does teaching ability translate into a good commentary writer. The answer in this case is a resounding YES! I have loved reading Sproul's work since becoming a Christian and I am happy to say that this commentary on Matthew is a treat to read.
First off, I do want to discuss the look of the commentary. As a book lover I always enjoy a "good looking" book. This one does not disappoint. The dust jacket has a wonderful look to it and coordinates well with the rest of the series that's available. The layout is great too. Each chapter covers a passage of Scripture. The passage reference is right below the chapter number and title and followed by the entire passage that will be discussed. The passage is offset by using a different font so it is clear to see where Scripture stops and Sproul starts. In the chapter itself, any time Sproul references the text it is offset in bold. This is a great tool, especially if you just want to scan through real quick to find out what the author has to say about a verse or too and are not concerned with the entire context.
Next is the content. Sproul lays out each chapter in a straightforward and easy to read format. There is typically a small introduction, but sometimes he jumps right into the text. He typically gives a brief explanation of the text followed by some practical application of an example to help the idea behind the passage sink in. The chapter break down is handled nicely and makes it easy to read straight through if one would choose to do so. If you are not familiar with Sproul's view on eschatology, then his treatment of Matthew 24 will be very beneficial. As a partial preterist Sproul believes that much of what is recorded in this chapter takes place in AD 70. For those only familiar with "Left-Behind" eschatology this will be a good short treatment of another view.
This is the fifth of this series that I have and I am pleased to say that they have not disappointed me. One important note to mention is that if you are looking for a commentary that is highly technical and focusing on the languages and grammar this is not it. This is more of a pastoral commentary. Sproul carries the reader through the text step by step to better grasp the content and does a wonderful job for an expositional commentary. The intent is to give the reader a good over view of what the passage is trying to communicate, not getting bogged down discussing the tense of a verb. GO GET YOURSELF A SPROUL COMMENTARY!!!!!
