Author Bio

Matthew Henry (1662-1714) was a Presbyterian minister in England who began his commentary on the Bible in 1704. He completed his work up to the end of Acts before his death. Afterward, his ministerial friends completed the work from Henry's notes and writings. Martin Manser has compiled and edited Bible reference material and English-language dictionaries for nearly thirty years. He lives in Aylesbury, England. He and his wife have two children.

Need more printing. I wish I could print more that 2 pages once every 7 days. I like to take the comenetary for the Gospel and lessons to church. I then discard the papers. Dick Buck April 23, 2012

Modern language, but abridged This version of the beloved Matthew Henry Commentary is an updated version in contemporary English. Be warned, however, that THIS VERSION IS ABRIDGED! All the main points in the original seem to be present here; however, some of Matthew Henry's expansive comments and pious exclamations that make this work as much a devotional as a commentary have been edited out. Here is just one example, from Gen. 1:1-2. ORIGINAL VERSION: The Son of God, the eternal Word and Wisdom of the Father, was with him when he made the world (Prov. 8:30), nay, we are often told that the world was made by him, and nothing made without him, Jn. 1:3, 10; Eph. 3:9; Col. 1:16; Heb. 1:2. O what high thoughts should this form in our minds of that great God whom we draw nigh to in religious worship, and that great Mediator in whose name we draw nigh! THIS VERSION: We are often told that the world was made by the Son, and nothing was made without him (Jn 1:3, 10; Eph 3:9; Col 1:16; Heb 1:2) So ... if you can manage the old English, get the original version, by all means - Matthew Henry's extended musings on God and His word are very helpful and spiritually encouraging. But if you have to have a modern language edition, this will have to do. April 2, 2012
