We have used many years of this program as our core math. Love how it makes the child think logically about the way math is solved. No boring drills. High-color and high-interest way of presenting material. Yet the pages are not busy at all. Very well done. Answers are all in the back. No separate teachers manual. Grade 6 Core is being released Fall of 2013. I will be the first in line for that one as well! I highly recommend The Critical Thinking Company books for homeschool. Not just this fabulous math program!

Overall I liked this workbook for my son. I felt it gave him many opportunities to understand concepts rather than to just follow rote directions and do drills. It required a great deal of logical thinking and mathematical reasoning (hence the title). It is simplistic in its explanations and instructions and therefore required a good deal of instruction before certain topics could be completed. I used this workbook as a supplement to another curriculum although I feel it would have been adequate as a core curriculum on its own. We would have moved through it quicker in that case. My biggest complaint was the quality of the book. The glue binding was not sufficient for such a large book and many pages fell out. I have found ths to be true of many of their books.

This is a great program to supplement a full curriculum but I wouldn't use it as a stand-alone math curriculum. The full color pages are inviting and the activities are fun, out-of-the-box-thinking types of problems. However, it really does spiral from skill to skill with little introduction or explanation of new skills and no real drill or focus on mastery. It will serve as a great change of pace/summer activity book for us but we will return to our regular math curriculum in the fall.
