CabotMama3 Stars Out Of 5Teaching Style Not EffectiveSeptember 26, 2014CabotMamaQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 2We are using Teaching Textbooks (Math 4) for the first time this year with my fourth grader. Previously, we used Bob Jones and were very happy, but we were looking for more independent work so I could focus on our younger three children. The curriculum is easy to install, easy to use, and makes tracking student progress easy as well.
At first, my son loved Teaching Textbooks. In the last six weeks, he has completed through Lesson 32, often voluntarily doing two lessons a day. However, he is now complaining that the practice problems and lesson questions have little to do with the actual lesson material presented during the lecture. He doesn't get a chance to practice what he has learned. For example, today's lesson was on money/coins, yet he only had five or six questions related to money. The rest of the questions seemed random. He is well past the "review" stage of initial chapters of any curriculum, so we would've expected more focused problems.
So, the big question ... do the lesson's exercises continue to not reinforce of the lesson's topic? Do the problems continue to have little to do with the lesson's subject material? Or is this drawback specific to TT Math 4? My child does not benefit from this teaching style. He would prefer to practice what he has learned.
VickyAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Good Product, but want more multiplication masteryFebruary 2, 2014VickyAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 4I have used TT for two years and will continue to use it. It has been a blessing to have one subject almost completely hands off. It does a great job with review, lecture, and progression of math concepts. The one area I have to add to is multiplication mastery. I added wrap-ups and review worksheets.
Marmee5 Stars Out Of 5Perfect for Multi-sensory Learners!November 20, 2013MarmeeQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My daughter and I are both very pleased with Teaching Textbooks so far. My daughter is doing very well with the program and looks forward to her assignment each day. Teaching Textbooks has reignited her confidence in herself and helped her find her love of math once again. This program is multi-sensory and targets just about any kind of learner.

My daughter does not enjoy math, but enjoys this program because of the cute animations. I appreciate the automatic grading and it's really very user-friendly.
livingcreativeSouthern INAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Better option than SOS.October 11, 2012livingcreativeSouthern INAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 4This is so much easier to use and install. Compared to SOS math we used last year. The explanation (lecture) part of the lessons are better in our opinion. My 4th grader can do math all by himself with no assistance. The book is the problems worked out in the lessons with a readable version of the lecture for each lesson. Highly recommend this over SOS. It would be nice if it was more affordable, but has been worth the purchase.
