She has spent her life caring for others--will she ever find someone who will cherish her?
Martha’s entire life is marked by her responsibilities to her family. In the absence of her mother, she runs the household, makes the meals, cares for her father, and attempts to keep her absentminded younger sister on task. In the midst of her duties, will she ever find time to live her own life--or find her own love?
This touching, well-researched portrayal of Martha of Bethany, sister of Mary and Lazarus, unveils the woman within the Bible character. Through Diana Wallis Taylor’s lush descriptions and inspired fusion of imagined and recorded dialogue, Martha’s world--her trials, triumphs, and loves--vibrantly comes to life.
Follow Martha as she navigates the complicated worlds of family, faith, and love . . . and you’ll never read her story the same way again.

Since her parents death she has been responsible for her younger brother and sister and that responsibility is becoming more and more crushing. She longs for a home and family of her own, but refused to let her duty to her siblings be pushed aside for her own selfish wants. Still she dreams until an encounter with two men leave her wondering if she could have the life she so desperately wants.
When I read about Martha in scripture I have always pictured her as an older woman with a touch of gray at her temples and a stern almost sour countenance. Ms. Taylor has turned that idea on its head. She has depicted her as a young vibrant young woman with dreams and ideas of her own. Over the years Martha has been depicted as a woman who thinks of nothing but work. I really liked the way that this author wrote her as being softer, but responsible. I thought this was a balance. I have to admit it took me a while to accept this picture of her.
Mary, I thought was well written and I loved the idea that she found love in the most unexpected place was, in my opinion one of the sweetest parts of the story.
The author has included Jesus quite a bit in this story, and He is written at just the right places that brought the story together rather nicely.
Diana Wallis Taylor has taken the story of Martha, Mary and Lazarus and created a story that rivals the imagination. From the fullness of the characters to the richness of Jesus and scripture the author brings to life people and places that are long gone.
I have devoured cover to cover each of every book this author has published and I have never been disappointed. Whether you have read this author before or are thinking about tying someone new, I don't think that you will be disappointed.

Rel Mollet5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent Biblical FictionJuly 5, 2011Rel MolletDiana Wallis Taylor's gentle retelling of the story of Martha is an engaging and thought provoking tale which I enjoyed from beginning to end. Extremely readable and faithful to the Biblical story where extrapolation was not required, Martha's story gives a possible glimpse of this woman's feelings as she and her family befriend Jesus and his disciples and welcome him into their home. Diana's Martha is a deeply responsible woman, wanting to ensure her family is cared for and respected in their community, which leads to Jesus' gentle rebuke of her choices. I loved that Diana kept the story fresh and transparent, avoiding unnecessary complexities, resulting in a moving and absorbing tale of Martha's journey to belief, acceptance and love.
amomwithablogLas Vegas, NVAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Martha's StoryJuly 3, 2011amomwithablogLas Vegas, NVAge: 45-54Gender: femaleMeets Expectations: 5Being a fan of Biblical fiction, I truly enjoyed this book. It is a great story. Diana Wallis Taylor did a wonderful job of bringing Martha to life. I think Martha is always used as a "what-not-to-do" example, and I'm so thrilled with the way the author told her story. She created a reason why Martha was so worried about getting things done. It's so easy for us to excuse behavior today because we understand the "why" behind that behavior. Sadly... Martha doesn't get that same understanding. Until now.
It's nice to think of Bible characters as what they are. Human. This book will bring to life some of the most talked about people in the Bible... Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. To get an idea of what they were thinking and feeling as they walked with Jesus, and as Lazarus was raised from the dead made me see their story in a whole new light. It is very much in keeping with scripture, yet adds enough fiction to make a wonderful book that you'll be sure to enjoy.
