You planned for the first day of your marriageà Are you planning for the last?
While a wonderful wedding day is important, itÆs the last day of marriage that really counts. Will the last day of your marriage come prematurely through divorce? Will it be filled with regrets as you sit at the funeral of your spouse? Or, by GodÆs grace, will the last day be a day to rejoice in the life you lived together?
Pastor Mark Driscoll and his wife, Grace, want you to finish well on the last day. Through their book Real Marriage and the eleven-week DVD-based study they share practical help and hope with people just like themùwho entered marriage a complete messùor who are planning to be married someday and want to avoid some sticky pitfalls in the future.
A companion to the Real Marriage DVD-Based Study Kit, this guide is uniquely designed for small groups, couples, and those who are considering marriage. Each session in the ParticipantÆs Guide provides engaging group study questions and essential homework for husbands, wives, and singles alike. Together you, your spouse, and your small group will tackle the tough issues such as friendship with your spouse, pornography and sexual assault, submission and respect, and sexual intimacy in marriage.
God desires for your marriage to be full of joy and happiness as it glorifies His Son. Jesus makes such marriage possible through His death and resurrection.

We also bought the Participant's Guide and watched videos that go along with it. It has helped tremendously. I would definitely suggest if you are going to read the book I would suggest you also use the Participant's Guide. It helps by asking questions you normally wouldn't and has helped open communication and doors in our relationship that weren't available before.
South AfricaAge: 35-44Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Good read, hard work.May 21, 2012South AfricaAge: 35-44Gender: maleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5What did I like most about this book? Probable the honesty. It starts with a very real story about how Mark and Grace Driscoll came together, and the challenges that they faced for years in their marriage. No holds are barred, with frank discussion of adultery, abuse, lies and all manner of sin being put on the table. They speak from a perspective of not just a couple who read 187 books to prepare for writing this one, but also a couple who have lived every page.
I loved the chapter called "Friends with benefits", which has some very real advice on how to make your spouse your best friend, as well as the importance of doing that.
I loved the chapter called "Can we_" which took a very honest view at all sorts of sexual activity, and whether they were permissible or not. What I liked about this chapter was that it did not just give answers, but that it gave a detailed process for how to make that determination for yourself. (Or maybe I just like it, because the process was very similar to the one I use when assessing similar questions.)
The book had no new or profound insights for me, and did not teach me anything I did not already know. However, it made me think about a lot of issues of marriage and my relationship in a new way, or maybe just a deeper way.
I would recommend it to anyone who has been married for years, and also to anyone who has been married for only months. It is even useful for singles and engaged couples in learning to prepare for the right attitude to marriage.
