This is one of a set of five novels by a writer with superlative intellect and a profound insight into both the human psyche and the transcendence of God. Williams is at his best describing the nexus between the latter two. SHEER GENIUS! The writing is engaging and captivating to the point of entrancing. At times the writing poignantly evokes feelings of warmth and comfort - one can feel the author nurturing our comprehension of the supernatural - yet other passages are written with shocking power and and foster train-wreck horror ... afraid of what we'll see (in or of ourselves or that OTHER) but unable to turn away.
