My 10 year old daughter loves this movie! She loves reading the books also. I do have to admit, some of the acting is a little cheesy, as previously mentioneded in another review, but in my opinion that just added character & humor to the movie. My daughter wants the next Mandie movie for Christmas! Good wholesome movie that you can let your children watch without worry.
I'll start with the fact that I haven't yet read the book, but the acting was so bad it took away from the story. I wanted to get drawn in, but it was like looking at yourself in a mirror trying to rehearse your lines and not look like your looking at yourself. Very distracting!! I hope the author is a better story teller than this movie was. I think it almost made me not want to read the book, and I love reading good books to my family. I want my children to be exposed to greatness in film and books, this was not that.
I just finished watching this movie with my 3 girls and we all loved it! I was impressed at how well they stayed true to the book I loved so much as a young girl myself. I would give it 4 1/2 stars because the acting was a little cheesy in places (though Lexi Johnson and Dean Jones were great) but with that not being an option it earns a 5. I am thrilled they are making a #2 and can't wait to see it!
