Purchased this DVD because the "Mandie" series is popular and wanted some Christmas items for our church library. Very disappointed. The whole episode is woven throughout with sneaking, coniving, lying, etc. NOT WHAT I WANT OUR CHILDREN TO WATCH. Does the end justify the means? Am I missing something or are parents not discerning these days? Watch 45 minutes or more of deceitfulness, but the happy ending makes it worth it all? I think not. I almost wish I were incorrect on this, but I don't think I am. Our son, who is presently rearing 3 children, mentioned that in so many movies the kids watch more wrong than right. Sadly, I fear he is corrent. POOR directing and POOR acting. Sorry to sound so negative, but felt I had to express myself after we watched this.
This movie was great. We watched it as a family and we all very much enjoyed it. The Forgotten Christmas is very kid friendly and has Christian values in full view. When Mandie has difficult problems she prays to God, as do other characters. Themes include the value of friendship, compassion, perseverance, tolerance and the importance of family. The movie is post Civil War and takes place in 1900. It especially appeals to children ages 6-13. My boys love it, but I would think this would especially appeal to girls. I highly recommend this movie any time of year, but particularly at Christmas.
