IreneUnited States5 Stars Out Of 5March 2, 2011IreneUnited StatesQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Remember as a child sitting in church listening to the Missionaries tell all those fun stories about ants and snakes and having to eat weird food? Well this book is full of stories just like those. It will have you on the edge of your seat wanting to read more.
This was a fun and entertaining book. This book shows, through true stories the author encountered while serving as a missionary, that the Lord is always with you. A quick read that reminds you of the Lords presence, a real treat in this scheduled filled life of ours! I read this book in one sitting and will be giving it as a gift to many friends this year.
I was given this book by christianreviewofbooks.com to review
Georgia Pierce4 Stars Out Of 5March 13, 2009Georgia PierceI love this book! It is inspiring, amusing, and TOTALLY TRUE! You will not read about experiences like this anywhere else, because Diana and Ron were in a very remote part of the world! I hope Diana writes more books, because I am sure she has lots more stories to tell!
B. Collins5 Stars Out Of 5March 7, 2009B. CollinsThis is one of the best new books about missions around. "Searching Deeper" Bible study questions in the back helped me to try to put myself in the place of the missionary on the field. Quite amazing.
SistuinChrist5 Stars Out Of 5March 3, 2009SistuinChristThis book is both funny and awakening. I enjoyed seeing how the author maintained faith during very difficult times, and loved reading the cultural differences.
Kelley "mama_killjoy"5 Stars Out Of 5March 3, 2009Kelley "mama_killjoy"When reading the stories in this book, I was moved from laughing to crying, then laughing again, and this was consistent through the entire book! It is hard to read just one of the stories, when I did put it down, I found myself eagerly anticipating the next stories! The author's transparent honesty made me look around my own "mission field" with a new vigor.

Tell us a little about yourself. I grew up in Tracy located in the the San Joaquin Valley in central California. I have an identical twin sister and an older sister. In 1983 I moved to Nevada and trusted the Lord as my Savior sitting in my car in front of the local newspaper office. After that, my life was never the same. He touched my heart for lost souls.
What was your motivation behind this project? Ron & I moved to Papua (formerly Irian Jaya), Indonesia in January 1998. As missionaries returning home for furlough and visiting churches, I kept hearing the same things from believers. "I could never live in a foreign country! I could never go there and live with snakes and bugs!" Especially to these people I have written this book. God's word says to walk moment by moment with the Lord, trusting Him for each step of the journey as I did.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? As the Lord puts a diversity of people with various cultures into our lives every day "our personal mission field", we can each trust Him step by step with our own needs and fears and pray for foreign and national missionaries who desperately need your daily prayers to live and minister in language and culture groups apart from their own.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? From the first step off the plane in Indonesia, my life was changed forever. Ron & I have a non-profit mission in Indonesia and one in the states to support it. Beyond Cultures International is a sending mission to Indonesia. We started out with Ron & I and now have over 38 foreign and national missionary families serving the Lord in Papua. He is to be praised!
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? When the Lord laid missionary work on my heart in 1983 as a new believer, I read about every missionary book that I could get my hands on. I searched for new ones as the years past and learned much from those that went before me. One of the key things I kept seeing was how they "lived by Faith". Which I chose for the theme of my book "Mama Dai Fell Through the Floor".
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Ron & I recently visited Papua and I went to visit Hizkia (the story from the title of the book. We saw their small remote neighborhood had built their own church from money they raised selling vegetables in the local market. As we were leaving they yelled "Mama Dai! Wait!" Down the dirt road hobbled his mom who is now in her 80s. (Most people here live to be 60). She hugged me and we chatted a bit. When I left, she reached up and whispered in my ear, "Puji Tuhan!" Praise the Lord! She is now a Christian and the stories live on!! Thank you Lord we CAN live by faith!
