There is perhaps no greater fear in a parent's heart than the thought that a much-loved and well-cared-for child will make bad choices or even become a prodigal.
What are parents to do in such circumstances? Authors Jim Newheiser and Elyse Fitzpatrick speak from years of personal experience as both parents and biblical counselors about how hurting parents can deal with the emotional trauma of when a child goes astray. They offer concrete hope and encouragement along with positive steps parents can take even in the most negative situations.
Includes excellent advice from Dr. Laura Hendrickson regarding medicines commonly prescribed to problem children, and offers questions parents can ask pediatricians before using behavioral medications. A heartfelt and practical guide for parents.
Elyse Fitzpatrick is the head of Women Helping Women Ministries and holds an MA in biblical counseling from Trinity Theological Seminary. She has authored more than a dozen books, including Love to Eat, Hate to Eat. She and her husband, Phil, have three grown children as well as grandchildren.
Jim Newheiser is a pastor, and also a counselor and director at The Institute for Biblical Counseling and Discipleship (IBCD) in San Diego, California. He holds M.A. and D.Min. degrees from Westminster Theological Seminary.
Dr. Laura Hendrickson, a former medical doctor and board–certified psychiatrist, is presently a biblical counselor, speaker, and writer. She lives in Southern California with her husband, Daniel, and her son, Eric.
PaulWestern PA5 Stars Out Of 5encouraging, not condemningMarch 16, 2016PaulWestern PAQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Too many godly parents face condemnation when their kids make bad choices, even when they did right to raise them. This book is very well balanced. It gives hope and comfort. It covers spiritual issues as well as medical/mental factors that MAY play a role (without blaming rebellion/sin on medicine).
Bethany5 Stars Out Of 5February 13, 2008BethanyThis book gave much hope and comfort to know someone has been through the same hard trials that my husband and I have been enduring. I would recommend this book for parents who have lost their children to the world after raising them to believe and trust in the Lord. Or to parents that have teenagers that are showing signs of leaving the faith. God is good and faithful. We trust in His sovereignty. Parents need to know that God gave us many examples in the Bible of parent with wayward children. We are called to be faithful. We cannot save our children.
