IreneUnited States5 Stars Out Of 5Great for any working ChristianFebruary 7, 2012IreneUnited StatesQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Made to Matter by Randy Kilgore is a weekly devotional. The subtitle is Devotions for Working Christians and really describes what this book is all about.
I found the chapters to be short but filled with helpful information to use while working as a Christian in a non-Christian work environment. Using examples of people who have made a difference the author show us what it means to matter for Christ. We have to study Christ's life and how he worked with people to see how we are supposed to work with others. Christ was always observant of those around him especially the lonely or those in need of help. How much do we look around to see those hurting around us and reach out to them in love or concern?
My favorite chapter was filled with questions. The questions all pertained to how you act on the job. Do you gossip, do you want to be there and even if the job you have is the right one for you? This chapter is a must read for everyone not sure of how to act or respond to others a work.
There is a section at the end of the book with relevant scripture references to help when your days are not going well. Whether you feel cheated or just need help in holding your tongue when someone speaks unkindly to you. These would be great to have posted in your work area to remind yourself how to act so others can see Christ in you! I found this book to be filled with helpful information and useful for any working Christian!
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

Tell us a little about yourself. After a career in human resources, I switched gears, becoming a workplace chaplain and work/faith writer, adding an M.Div. to my business degree and experience. I'm the author of six Bible study collections for workers (30 Moments Christians Face in the Workplace), as well as a weekly Internet devotional, Made to Matter.
What was your motivation behind this project? I want workers to understand God is active in their working lives, and He cares about the work they do. My goal is to encourage, inform, inspire, educate and even occasionally amuse workers as they discover God's word talks about difficult bosses, too-busy schedules, compensation strategies and much more!
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? First, I want them to understand they matter to God; and second, that because they do, the work they engage in matters to Him as well. Then, I want to teach them how to find for themselves, in Scripture, the answers to everyday issues.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I'm always moved by how relevant the Bible is to the moments we face right now. I'm also always moved by the majesty of work itself. So melding the two worlds (which is what God intended all along) has been a humbling, engaging and delightful journey.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Oswald Chambers above all others; I've often felt he must have followed me around and catalogued what I needed to still learn in writing "My Utmost for His Highest". I also love the gentleness of Max Lucado, the candor of C.S. Lewis and the passion and relevance of Dallas Willard.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Yes; this is a book for people at any level in their spiritual journey, from disaffected or dispirited believers to those who know the joy of lifelong spiritual service; and it's also for people in the storms of life. If you're hanging on by a thread, but you're intimidated by what you don't know about faith, try this book. It just might gently coax you back to the place where the voice of God, which has never stopped beckoning you, can be heard above the thunder of the culture.
