What would happen if we truly loved those are different from us in race, background, abilities, gender, economic status, identity, or physical condition? How would our communities change if we stopped being afraid of those who don't fit our definition of "lovable"? How would our hearts find greater joy if we acknowledged the risk of loving without conditions--and did it anyway?
Love. Period. is hustler-turned-pastor Rudy Rasmus's call for us to live the most daring way we can. To refuse to follow the hate and apathy of our world. To speak the words that Jesus intended: "I choose to love. Period." Love--it's precisely what God calls us to do.

Pastor Rudy Rasmus explains how our communities, our churches, and our world would change for the better if we all tried a different approach to living with others. If we just choose to Love, Period. This book will show you how to change your interaction with others, by applying the biblical principles of Matthew 19:26, "with God, all things are possible," and 1 Corinthians 13, "_ if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing... It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."
So, because all else fails, throw away your biases, your uncomfortableness, your anger, your suspicion, your racial tension, and your divisiveness. Love others. Period.
It can be done! Pastor Rudy and his congregation at St. John's in Houston have been successfully applying these Love principles, and oh, what a difference it has made in their community. Pastor Rudy gives plenty of personal examples from his early life as a street hustler, to his appointment with Jesus, and how he became a Christian pastor who loves the unlovable like Christ loves us. Pastor Rudy teaches that you can experience this kind of biblical love for yourself - but only by giving it away to others.
Pastor Rudy gives the reader great insights into how to respond to evil and anger, how to extend a second chance, and how to be consistent in loving the un-lovables. Pastor Rudy explores "compassion fatigue," and leads an interesting discussion on how to identify it and how to avoid it.
Included is an excellent section on developing a service plan for your church and community, and don't miss the "Four C's of a Loving Community." These plans are stellar.
While Rudy Rasmus is a stellar guy doing a fantastic service for Christ, his past, and who he rubs elbows with, also make him a little rough around the edges. I'm referring to the "Love is PIMP-proof" section of the book. A bit of a risqué subtitle, but it makes for a very interesting read! Also edgy is his use of The Message as a Bible source.
What touched my heart about this author is Rudy's thanksgiving for those that showed him love and also for those that denied him love. In his Acknowledgements section, Rudy writes, "Every experience has been a learning experience on love."
Way to love, Rudy! Discover it for yourself by reading this lovable book.

Love. Period. That just about sums up the book yet there is so much more. Rudy Rasmus explains and then challenges us to love people regardless of race, gender, status, past experiences, mistakes, and beliefs. He shows how loving everyone can have such a strong impact on others as well as ourselves. Through personal stories, the author encourages us to love unconditionally, just as God does_
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Based on 1 Corinthians 13, Rudy Rasmus explains love, teaches love, shows love, reaches out in love, and finds peace and happiness in love. More than just random-acts-of-kindness, love can open doors if applied without boundaries. Love. Period. would be wonderful as a Bible Study coupled with community service in action. Set in brief chapters with highlights in bold, this book was a quick read yet could also be a deeper read with time to absorb the message. Imagine the impact such a message could have on people if we would all_Love. Period.
