— Sherrie Eldridge, speaker and author of Twenty Things Adoptive Parents Need to Succeed

"After reading this book, our first thoughts were, Every parent needs to read this book—regardless of the ages of their children, and, Reading this book could not only protect children from the pains of growing up but also heal the parents’ hearts. As a parent educator for over twenty-five years, I see this book as the resource we’ve been missing!"
—Laura Taggart, licensed marriage and family therapist

—Kenny Luck, author of Soar, Fight, and Dream

—Sheri Denham, PhD, MFT, and co-host of New Life Live

"If you’ve ever struggled with being a good enough parent, ever been triggered by your child’s behavior in ways you’d be too embarrassed to recount, or ever compensated with your child to override your guilt, then you won’t want to miss How We Love Our Kids!"
— Jill Hubbard, PhD, co-host of New Life Live and author of The Secrets Women Keep and The Secrets Young Women Keep

"Milan and Kay have given us great insights into how our own attachment issues affect our parenting styles. Every parent needs to read this book, regardless of the ages of their kids."
—David Stoop, PhD, author of Just Us and Forgiving the Unforgivable

How We Love Our Kids: The 5 Love Styles of Parenting is a must-read if you are a parent... whether you are a brand-new parent, or have been a parent for decades. In a refreshing change of pace from far too many parenting books today, it takes the focus off what the kids may be doing "wrong", and puts the responsibility for good parenting on the shoulders of the parents, exactly where it belongs.

Milan and Kay Yerkovich give us an in-depth look into understanding WHY we parent the way we do, what our individual triggers may be, and how best to work with our strengths. They explain the pivotal that role our past experiences, and particularly our own nuclear family growing up, play in shaping the parents that we eventually become.

This was truly one of the most eye-opening books on parenting that I have ever read. It was the impetus for much self-reflection. While it was somewhat painful to delve so deeply into my own issues, as well as their causes, it was also an immense relief. The book doesn't just identify what type of parent you are, and why. It gives you the specific tools, resources, and encouragement to make changes and do better.... starting right now.

The one part of the book that I disagreed with (a small section on time-outs as punishment) was fairly easily overlooked, as the overall message and delivery of the rest of the book was such an important one.

This should be on every parent's book shelf.

This is a profound book for me - clearly describing parental ways to love, children's adaptation to their parents as well as their own unique gifts. So helpful to know the areas we need to focus on and be kind to ourselves and others in the process. A real win/win book!

First off, I rated "Meets Expectations" as "Poor" because honestly, I expected it to be like another book I'd read about parent/child love styles. It was completely different so I'm glad it didn't meet my expectations!

In How We Love Our Kids the authors Milan and Kay Yerkovich discuss the 5 styles of parents (and consequently their children) and how to adjust the parts that don't work so that you can be a better parent to your kids. They also include information on 5 "Unique Children" (introverted, free-spirited, etc) which in addition to the 5 given earlier in the book, pretty much covers all kids. No, it's not perfect, and the method sounds pretty cheesy but I can see how and why it would be beneficial. I am going to start recommending this book to parents of all ages who are looking for some parenting advice.

Disclaimer: I received this book free from Waterbrook Multnomah in exchange for an honest review.

How We Love Our Kids: The 5 Love Styles of Parenting is full of great information. We were all brought up differently. Therefore, we all know love as something different. We can transform our kids by changing certain things about how we love.

    In This Book:

*Identify which of the 5 love styles you have.

*Discover surprising dynamics that shape your parenting.

*Get rid of your "buttons" so your kids can't push them.

*Create a close connection with your kids that will last a lifetime.

*Learn the 7 gifts every child needs.

I love the Parent Toolbox in the back of the book. I gained a lot of knowledge from this book and I am grateful for it.

Do you ever feel like, as a parent, you are messing up big time with your kids? If we are honest with ourselves, we will see that we do make mistakes as parents, but those mistakes are fixable.

In their book, How We Love Our Kids: The 5 Love Styles of Parenting, Milan and Kay Yerkovich offer hope to parents. In this book, they describe five ways we parent our children and why we parent that way. With each parenting style, the Yerkovich's offer suggestions on how to overcome problems that arise from being that type of parent. They then go on to discuss the types of children and how to best parent them.

This is not a "do this and you will be the greatest parent" guidebook. It is simply a book that teaches parents to understand before reacting. Parents must understand why they parent they way they do, and they must understand what is really behind the behavior of their children. Doing both of these, encourages the authors, will strengthen the family relationship.

I highly recommend this book to parents who are eager to better the relationships in their home. I enjoyed reading this book and have already begun to use what I have learned from it.

I received a free copy this book from the publisher for the purpose an honest review.
