Jennings's Newest Historical Romance
Is a Delight!

Molly Lovelace dreams of being a society leader in 1878 Lockhart, Texas, but being smitten with handsome wrangler Bailey Garner doesn't seem the quickest route. If only he would settle down so he could support a family.

Bailey imagines doing great things for God, but his biggest issue is Molly. As long as he thought they'd be married, he excused their stolen kisses, but when she keeps refusing, he vows to earn her love. In town, he tries his hand at several different trades, but everywhere he turns he runs into the mysterious stranger Edward Pierrepont. No surprise that Molly's always making calf eyes at the wealthy adventurer.

One large fight and some crossed wires later, Molly is prepared to swear off Bailey forever, especially since Pierrepont seems to be hinting at marriage--only he's also about to leave Lockhart. As pressure from Molly's parents grows she is forced into a hasty decision. Had she weighed all her options and will she find love in the balance?

I really enjoyed reading this book. As I was reading "Caught in the middle" which turn out to be last of a series. I seem to recall having read about these people before. I went into CBD and found out this was a series

Number 1 in the series "Sixty acres and a bride.", which I purchased for our church library in 2012. So I had to purchase "Love in the balance." which is the second one and "Caught in the middle." is the third one. I just reread all 3 at the same time. I really enjoyed them. She is a very good writer. I hope to read more of her books.

Molly Lovelace was a difficult character to care for. Her poor choices made her tough to like. She came across as quite selfish although she claimed that some of her actions were to help her family.

I enjoyed the story which had some great lessons about true love and forgiveness. Sometimes it's hard to see the good in people when we should trust them, while other times it's hard to find out that some folks are not as good as they initially come across.

I really didn't have a favorite character. I gained respect for Bailey's family, especially when they stood up for who they loved.

If you enjoy historical romance, you will likely enjoy this book.

I enjoyed this charming, small town, historical romance. Love in the Balance is set in Texas in the late 1800s, when women had few options and were often at the mercy of others. Although this is the second book in the series, I inadvertently read it prior to Book 1, Sixty Acres and a Bride. The only gap I noticed was that one or two characters, unknown to me, were briefly mentioned. In my opinion, this book can be read as a stand-alone novel, however, I will be going back and reading the first book.

Molly Lovelace, at first, appeared to me to be rather shallow and not really a very deep thinker. However, as the story moves along, it becomes evident that she is more or less, fulfilling the role in which her family has cast her. I love the way that she grows, both spiritually and as an independent woman, by the end of the book.

Baily Garner is an interesting hero, who is not always what he seems to those around him. His conflicts are mostly internal, as he strives to figure what to do in life. Even though Baily has many options and opportunities, he has little direction and is often confused.

I think Love in the Balance is a satisfying read and Im very pleased with the way the story ends. I recommend this book to those who savor historical romance.

Regina has done it again, I loved this book! She just pulls you right in with her writing and yanks at your heart strings. I would find myself so upset with Molly's parents, oh yes, both of them, that I wanted to set them down and have a good heart to heart talk about how they could treat their only daughter that way, and the things they would say to her! I read "Sixty Acres and A Bride" quite some time ago and I'm sorry I didn't read this one sooner, but now I can go right on to the next one in the series, "Caught in the Middle", oh yeah! I highly suggest this series to readers that like to read Historical Christian Romance Fiction, you will be glad you did.

I am always impressed when an author can take a character that I truly did not like in one book, make them the main character in another book and bring me around to like them by the end of that story. I was not sure if it would be possible in Love in the Balance for Regina Jennings to make me care about what happened to Molly, because I really, really, really did not like her in book one of the series!

And I will admit that I really did not like her during the first portion of this book. I felt sorry for her and confused about choices that were being made between two people who obviously loved each other. I felt frustration with Molly and with a certain hero in the story_but liking Molly_nope_not going to happen!

    Except that it did!

Another thing that impressed me with this story is that it had a big twist to it that I really didn't see coming. This twist is something that I hadn't encountered in any other books that I have read. It is pivotal to the story and brings about the events in the book that made me really start to care about what happens to Molly.

Love in the Balance illustrates the impact that the choices we make can have on us, as well as the impact of not truly trusting God to take care of things in our lives and instead trusting in our own devices. This is a great story of redemption.
