Rita is determined to get the salon back to its former glory by Valentine's Day, which happens to coincide with the reopening of the nearby skating rink that she loved as a child. She only has her small personal savings and a short amount of time off of work to get the job done. But she also has the help of old friends, including Johnny, a former classmate who now works for Jolly Janitors, the company that cleans the salon. Rita is surprised at how well they connect and how much he is willing to do to help her. Though Rita believes Johnny is only being kind, with romance in the air their friendship may just fall into something more.

This Is the least favorite book I've ever bought from cbd. It has a very simple plot, and hardly no romance. Definitely not worth what I payed for it.

Love Gently Falling by Melody Carlson, 2015
Melody Carlson has been a favorite author of mine since reading her Back Home Again, the first book in the Grace Chapel Inn bed-and-breakfast series, and then on to her stand-alones. I like that she writes wholesome stories for a wide variety of age groups.
Love Gently Falling is a novella, shorter than Melody's novels, but just as absorbing. Rita Jansen is flexible and organized at the same time. In the opening, I like how she interacts with her roommate, Aubrey, and the relationship she has with others. Eager to help her, Aubrey makes arrangements for Rita's travel back home upon hearing of the illness of her mother. Rita is a giver too, and flows from a heart of respect and honor for others. The story is very fluid, as if you are there with their conversations. Flying from California's mild weather to opening the door to Chicago's windy city, is just the beginning of changes ahead for Rita. She sets herself aside to help her family. A very engaging story of communication and love that will be an encouragement to any day! What I liked most is the conflict resolution.
Also included within is the first chapter of Once Upon a Winter's Heart, for a further Valentine's Day read!

While waiting for her mother to finish rehab, Rita is helping out at her mother's hair salon.
Rita discovers that her mother's business is in worse shape that her mother. While looking at some pictures of the salon's early days and then while cleaning out the storage room there, Rita has a brainstorm. She comes up with a plan to revive the salon's business before heading back to L.A. Her goal is to have a grand reopening to coincide with the opening of the skating rink in the center of the mall where the salon is located.
During all this makeover, Rita finds herself falling for one of the janitors who cares for the salon. Will a janitor keep her in Chicago? Get real. She has her dream job waiting for her.
I've always enjoyed Melody Carlson's books. This one was no exception. Thank you, Ms Carlson. I'm looking forward to your next book.

Heart2HeartVictorville, CAAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5It's never to late to fall in love!!!January 18, 2015Heart2HeartVictorville, CAAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Just when Rita Jansen thinks she finally has the perfect life all figured out, tragedy strikes with one phone call from her dad. Her mother has had a stroke and they aren't sure if she will recover but it doesn't look good. Now she will leave her life as a hair stylist in Beverly Hills to face the cold winter of Chicago to help her mother for the next two weeks. Her passion for hair began working with her mother at her salon Hair and Now, and it was her mother who funded the money to send her to school to get her license even though it was in California. Her mother had always been there to support her, now it was Rita's turn to help in any way she could.
When she arrived at the airport intending on finding her own transportation to get to the hospital, she is more than surprised when an old friend from school, Johnny Hollister, is there to pick her up. This way her family can stay at the hospital and not have to worry about Rita. They share a great reunion in the drive there and she learns that Johnny has added her mother's salon to his growing number of clients for his janitorial company. She also learns that her childhood best friend has opened her own shop in the same mall as the salon.
When Rita arrives, she learns that her mother's recovery and stroke was worse than she imagined and it will take about six months to get her back on her feet again. Until then, it's long hours of physical therapy to get her speech and movement back. Rita vows to spend those two weeks renovating her mother's outdated salon to something she would be proud of. But how will she be able to manage it with only two weeks and a very limited budget. All she knows is she has to try because by the looks of things if she doesn't her mother may be out of business before she can return to the salon again.
I received Love Gently Falling by Melody Carlson compliments of Center Street Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Groups for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions contained here are strictly my own. This is such a beautiful contemporary romance perfect for Valentine's Day! The love that abounds not only for Rita's family and friends but even for her own childhood skating rink comes full circle by the conclusion of this book and teaches us that it's never to let to find love in the places we might least expect it. This one is worthy of 5 out of 5 stars.
