I don't know why, but I was expecting this book to be a historical fiction... based on actual historical facts. The plot is ordinary. The characters are shallow, and the story line is oh so predictable. No depth to the story at all. It is obvious that the author has little to no understanding of the time period in which she sets her story. There's really not much to recommend about this book. I wanted it because my daughter 'found love in Maiden, NC' and that's about the only value the book has to me... for novelty purposes. It would have been nice if the author had actually done some research and included some historical facts and context of Maiden, NC to add interest to the story. As it is, this story could have taken place at any time, and in any place, USA. In fact it has nothing of the feel of the time period and has a very modern feel about it. It is written from the standpoint of an author who only knows a modern way of life and has no understanding of olden times.
It took me about 3 months to finally complete the reading of this book.
This book is what my mom and I call a "fluff" book. It is just a sweet romance. There were only good guys, no action or suspense, a few problems which weren't too strange, and a "happily ever after" ending. The author did a wonderful job writing the story and it had a satisfying ending. This is the perfect book for a lazy summer day.
Short skirts, short haircuts, smoking, and dancing The Charleston are all symbols of The Roaring Twenties. But for Christians, nothing brings that era to life better than Love Find You In Maiden, North Carolina by Tamela Hancock Murray. Unlike many young women in the nineteen twenties, Hestia Myatt dreamed of becoming a doctor, not bobbing her hair and wearing flapper dresses. But after a broken engagement, she headed for the hills of North Carolina to care for her ailing aunt. While there, she is reacquainted with handsome Booth Barrington, and she sees her cousin, Selene, again. Will Selenes flashy, modern ways influence Hestia? Or will Hestias strong faith help point Selene to the Lord? Love Finds You In Maiden, North Carolina is a heartwarming romance that will capture your interest from sentence one and hold it until the end.
