In her novel, Love Finds You in Deadwood, South Dakota, Tracey Cross highlights God's faithfulness amid evil and tragedy. Cross creates a main character who is easy to root for as she stubbornly tries to do what is right. Circumstances go from bad to worse, but God continually provides a way out.

The first line of the book immediately presents the main character's dilemma. Cross writes, "It had simply never occurred to Jane Albright that Tom might be dead." Pregnant and the mother of one son already, Jane is forced to provide for her family and pay off her husband’s debts. Jane’s goal is to keep her family’s homestead, but Franklin Lloyd claims that it rightfully belongs to him. Just as it seems that Jane may have found a solution, she is whisked away by an evil businessman who claims to be in love with her. Jane must fight to keep her family safe and to return home.

A verse that would summarize Jane’s attitude is Psalm 37:39, which says, "The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble." Even though it seems Jane will be forced to marry an unscrupulous man who doesn’t truly love her, she doggedly believes that God will save her. Jane’s faith and heroic actions present her as a role model for the town of Deadwood as someone who proves that good can overcome evil.

This is an action-packed page-turner that kept me guessing the outcome until the very end. After reflecting on the book, I was overwhelmed by the evil of man, but also thankful for God’s protection and faithfulness. Anyone interested in stories about the western frontier or fans of Christian romance will be drawn to this exciting tale. – Melinda Zurcher, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
