Jane Albright is freshly widowed and pregnant---and has a toddler to care for. When she learns she might lose the family home and freighting business to moneylender Franklin Lloyd, she brandishes a bullwhip and continues her husband's work. But will Jane be able to protect her children's future from a money-grubbing cheat like Franklin? 320 pages, softcover from Summerside.
Jane Albright is newly widowed, with one child to care for and another on the way. When she learns that she is at risk of losing the family home and freighting business to greedy moneylender Franklin Lloyd, she has no choice but to brandish a bullwhip and haul freight all the way to Deadwood, South Dakota. Franklin agrees to give Jane six months to pay the note, and it ll take every ounce of grit she has to secure her children?'s future. Franklin admires the strong and beautiful woman - but how can he help her when he is her greatest enemy?
In her novel, Love Finds You in Deadwood, South Dakota, Tracey Cross highlights God's faithfulness amid evil and tragedy. Cross creates a main character who is easy to root for as she stubbornly tries to do what is right. Circumstances go from bad to worse, but God continually provides a way out.
The first line of the book immediately presents the main character's dilemma. Cross writes, "It had simply never occurred to Jane Albright that Tom might be dead." Pregnant and the mother of one son already, Jane is forced to provide for her family and pay off her husbands debts. Janes goal is to keep her familys homestead, but Franklin Lloyd claims that it rightfully belongs to him. Just as it seems that Jane may have found a solution, she is whisked away by an evil businessman who claims to be in love with her. Jane must fight to keep her family safe and to return home.
A verse that would summarize Janes attitude is Psalm 37:39, which says, "The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble." Even though it seems Jane will be forced to marry an unscrupulous man who doesnt truly love her, she doggedly believes that God will save her. Janes faith and heroic actions present her as a role model for the town of Deadwood as someone who proves that good can overcome evil.
This is an action-packed page-turner that kept me guessing the outcome until the very end. After reflecting on the book, I was overwhelmed by the evil of man, but also thankful for Gods protection and faithfulness. Anyone interested in stories about the western frontier or fans of Christian romance will be drawn to this exciting tale. Melinda Zurcher, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
