Publisher's Description

Praying together is a privilege and an opportunity to enter into the presence of God in a unique and powerful way. Yet the truth is that prayer meetings aren’t at the top of most Christians’ lists of favorite things to do. Praying together is a lost art for many Christians today. Author and pastor James Banks makes the case for praying together as a means of enjoying God’s blessings and pleasing Him. "Amazing things happen when God’s people pray. Our heavenly Father invites us into the wonder of watching Him work. It is what He has promised to do."

Editorial Reviews

"For those who are searching for spiritual renewal, one could hardly recommend a better place to begin than with the reading of James Banks'' excellent new book, The Lost Art of Praying Together.” ~Garth M. Rosell, Professor of Church History, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary

"If ever there was a time in our nation for prayer it is now. Dr. Banks has offered a most insightful and practical help on prayer. His work is from the Father''s heart and one of the best that I have read. Time spent in this book is time spent at the Master’s feet." ~Dr. Terry Teykl, author, speaker, and consultant for Renewal Ministries

"James Banks has unearthed some long-overlooked gems from God''s Word and history about why praying together matters.  Here''s help for churches, prayer groups and families who hunger to see what God can do when His people pray.  The Lost Art of Praying Together is a timely and powerful work." ~Cheri Fuller, author of thirty books, including When Mothers Pray

“At a time when corporate prayer has been marginalized in so many congregations, James Banks reminds us that united believing prayer is foundational to our Christian faith, both individually and corporately. This wonderful book comes from the heart of a godly pastor, one with a burden to see fresh revival break out and bring deep spiritual renewal to congregations small and large. I was privileged to interact with James as he developed this book and I pray that it will be a catalyst for renewal in hundreds of congregations across our land.” ~Robert J. Mayer, Senior Librarian, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary

“James Banks is one of God''s choice servants with a heart full of love and concern for the prayer life of God''s people. Many have their own private times of prayer but few have learned the art of praying together. Corporate prayer is needed in order for believers to see corporate revival. This book helps God''s people recover the lost art of praying together through the teaching of God''s Word as well as very helpful tools for practical corporate prayer.” ~Kerry L. Skinner, co-author of many books with Henry Blackaby

Author/Artist Review

Author: Dr. James Banks

Tell us a little about yourself.  I'm a writer, pastor and church planter living in Durham, North Carolina with my beautiful wife of 25 years. We have two kids in college.

What was your motivation behind this project?  To encourage Christians to pray together! Many of us feel we should, but we're not sure how to carry it out. This is something we can learn from previous generations of believers. Praying with others can become one of the greatest blessings of our Christian life!

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  God loves it when we pray together, and moves in the lives of Christians who seek him together in unique and powerful ways. My real hope is that we will see what God alone can do in answer to heartfelt, humble, united prayer.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I found myself inspired again and again by what God had done in centuries past in answer to the prayers of his people.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  First, the Word of God. We need to understand that praying together is a biblical concept! Charles Spurgeon, Jonathan Edwards, D.L. Moody, Billy Graham, Nicholas von Zinzendorf, Charles Finney, E.M. Bounds, and many others were influential in this work as well!

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Jesus promised that “where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20). When we meet in his presence, we find the encouragement, blessing and help that he alone can give. Praying together is a privilege and opportunity which we don't want to miss!
