You do not have to be paralyzed by regret, defeated by aging, and discouraged by the passing of your dreams. You do not have to make greater trouble out of the trouble you are already experiencing. This time of life, which can seem like the end of many things, can actually welcome you to a brand new way of living. As is so often the case in your walk with the Lord, this moment of pain is also a moment of grace. Because of this, all of us need to occasionally step back, slow down, and consider where we are going. Lost in the Middle will help you to do just that.
One final word: Although this book is targeted at those who are struggling with the issues of midlife, it has a much broader net than that. Lost in the Middle can help all who are struggling with life in this broken world and have lost their way. The God who seems so distant to you in this moment is actually near and active. Lost in the Middle is written to give you eyes to see him, to see yourself more clearly, and to find the real hope that you need to carry on.

Organic MusicianAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Incredibly insightful bookOctober 9, 2010Organic MusicianAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I found myself befuddled in my 50th year of life. As I looked within myself and without to the lives of others, I realized I was in mid-life crisis. I shared that with my Pastor, and he gave me this book. What a treasure! I found myself on every page, and when I looked at the friends and families (many from our church) who had "slipped away", I realized that they were "lost in the middle" as well. This book gets to the heart of what real faith is and what God is doing in our lives, even when (and especially when) we feel we are getting toasted and roasted in the oven of life, when our bodies are failing, our children are floundering and our faith is fleeting. I am going to give copies to as many people as I can, with discernment and sensitivity.
David Leary5 Stars Out Of 5November 11, 2006David LearyWhat a great book! I read it, loved it and preached through it one Sunday evening a month. It gets to the heart of what Christianity is all about. I find myself going back to this book again and again in almost every counseling situation. It applies to way more than midlife; it applies to all of life. Our source of happiness, identity, purpose and worship is to be found in our relationship with Christ and not in our health, wealth, career, marriage, children or even being a pastor. When we place anything ahead of God, it becomes an idol and we set ourselves up for great disappointment which generally begins to manifest itself during midlife. Great book for all age groups. I'm buying copies for friends and other pastors.
