Valuable advice Wish I had read this book when my children were in the early teen years. Good practical examples on how to let go and give responsibility to your teenagers. It's hard to give up control and this book tells you how in a healthy way. I highly recommend this book to all of us "helicopter moms". September 23, 2011

one point really has helped me This book certainly has some good thought-provoking points. I have come away with one point that really rings in my head that will help me: Don't use rules to change attitude. I have been doing this very thing and found it wasn't working like I thought. Changing my own way of dealing with my teen and the comments I make to her and the respect I give her has been gradually changing things. I had made some changes some time ago after reading a different book that actually gave more specific ways of handling everyday conflicts. The reason I do not give this book more stars is that it seems to deal with more serious problems than I need to. I am a homeschool Mom so most of my conflicts deal with attitude issues around schooling and dealing with siblings. This book wasn't super helpful in this area. It seemed to focus on more serious issues. I want to deal with it before it is a serious problem. It is a good book though for those dealing with problems more likely to come up in a public school setting. April 7, 2011

It was a great read. Common sensical fast read. I feel a bit more equipped to deal with my teenager.I plan to purchase a copy for my church library in the near future as well. That is how much I liked the book. August 27, 2010

This book is really giving me something to think about. Although I'm not completely finished with it, it has shown me to release my between-highschool-and -college -age-children more, to know I cannot MAKE them to things anymore. To know which battles to fight and to begin treating them more like adults. To not expect perfection. Mostly to show grace when they mess up...a hard lesson I'm learning. I know I'm going to like "losing control," because I can do it SOMETIMES and it feels good. I hope to master it soon, but for now I'm trying. Good stuff. I've recommended it to all my friends. We're all in the same boat and thinking of doing it as a Bible Study. July 16, 2010
