Stormie Omartian, the author, had battled severe depression for a very long time before she found relief. Unfortunately, I'm one of those people who battles depression, I also battle anxiety, which only worsens my depression. It is popular belief in the Christian community, that people with depression, aren't close enough to God or they are sinning habitually. Sometimes, that is the case, but sometimes it is not. Stormie tells how she was a Christian and she read the Bible daily, but her depression was still there. My depression continues to stay with me, whenever I'm close to God and whenever I've wandered away from Him, but my depression is easier to deal with when I'm closer to Him. Some people find relief from depression when they find God, and some only find depression easier to deal with when they find God, but the depression still haunts them. For me, I think I inherited depression, I had no traumatic experiences as a child that brought it on, but like many members of my family I do have an anxiety disorder, ADD, and depression. Although they are not severe, they still cripple my personality, and I find it hard to function on most days. Stormie has a way of writing, in which she reaches out to the readers heart, she doesn't just give advice that she thinks people need, she gives advice she knows people need, because she has been there. She lays out a simple and Biblically based guide line to healing your tormented mind and soul, and finding peace and relief from depression. The book is explicitly based on Biblical principles and overall she shows you how to find the peace God longs to give you. Even if you don't suffer from depression, or any other emotional problem, it is still a fantastic book to read if you want an overall sense of peace in your life. I would recommend this to any and everyone. If not now, at some point in your life you will need the Godly advice in this book.
I praise God for Stormie and her powerful testimony through "Lord, I Want to Be Whole Workbook & Journal" - this book helped me to go from darkness into the Light of Jesus Christ and find a personal intimate relationship with Him - one like I had only dreamed of...thank you, God, for saving Stormie - she is helping so many by your grace and love extended to her." Wholeness is catching - I recommend this book to all the hurting friends I know...
This book is an excellent tool to help women who are struggling to find their purpose as a woman of God. After losing my first husband at a young age, I felt I had lost my purpose. This book showed me that I might have lost my earthly mate, but the love of my life should be Christ and that no relationship on earth is as important. I now use this book in my ministry to give to wounded hearts that God brings into our bed and breakfast and into my life. Thank you Ms. Omartian for being used of God!
This book has made such an impact in my life that I am actually using it in our women's bible study group. It has proven to be an excellent aid to help women deal with those deep issues that many churches never really venture into. It causes you to take your relationship with Christ beyond the "just church as usual" state. If you are seeking true deliverance and wholeness in your life and you want to now become the "new creature" that you are to be in Christ, you MUST add this book to your library. I am grateful for Mrs. Omartian's honesty in sharing her life with others. You are truly being used of God to bless the women of our ministry.
"And the truth shall set you free!" I read this book when it was titled "A Step In The Right Direction" and have been reading her other books ever since. "Lord, I Want To Be Whole" bears God's truth and He has promises that "His Truth shall set us free". Stormie Omartian demonstrates and writes that we must lay a strong foundation filled with His truth, love and grace if we ever want to succeed in the Christian life! Life's storms are inevitable, but God's Presence and Word are here to stay! I highly recommend this book to every believer--especially new Christians stumbling in his/her walk with God.
