MichelleThereseScotlandAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Will move you forward - not just a temporary buzz!March 16, 2013MichelleThereseScotlandAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Sorry but I've become terribly disillusioned with a lot of the books and DVDs that are marketed towards women trying to become healthy balanced Christians. You get a lovely temporary emotional buzz but that soon wears off after you put the book down. Very frustrating! I've wasted a lot of money with "Christian women's books" and I almost passed on this journal. I am SO GLAD that I took the risk!
The physical aspects:
I worried that this journal would be quite small, like most magnetic-flap journals. But it is the perfect size, not too big or too small.
The cover is a lovely thick quality matte finish, with embossed white flowers that wrap all the way around the book: a very nice feminine touch without being overdone.
You open the book to find nice glossy quality paper on the inside covers. The pages are good quality like you find in a text book. They are decorated around the edges with the same flowers. And although the book won't remain open and flat on its own, it flattens quite easily. So writing on the pages is not a pest: you don't have part of the lines sinking into the curve near the center.
Ok, now the review of the content:
Meat and Potatoes, my dear sisters in Christ! Beth Moore has a way with words. She can convey her personal experiences, what she's learned, and a good dose of Christian teaching all without making your eyes glaze over with boredom - and without being all foo-foo and annoying. You don't feel patronized and you don't feel as if you are reading packaged words that are delivered with disinterested concern and a plastic smile.
You will find yourself seriously focusing on her words as you read and you will walk away feeling fed and, best of all, given a tangible direction. I feel as if I am moving forward, not just running in place via a few minutes of warm fuzzies fueling my temporary bliss.
But do keep this in mind: You won't want to buy this journal or any of Beth Moore's books if you're not willing to put in some spiritual elbow grease. She motivates you to *work* at solving your issues rather then laying the blame everywhere else. No foo-foo here!
On a side note, Elizabeth George is another such author who gives you meat and potatoes without the plastic smile and fluff!

My personal struggle was with depression and the negative ways I was knowingly ( and unknowingly) coping with it. The book played a big part in how God helped me to overcome and recognize the root of my issues and look to Him for my Peace and Joy and deliverance.

It was just what I had been looking for. I was so glad I found it . I would absolutely recommend it. I especially like that it helps those who feel like they are just stuck. Not necessarily in sin or something similar but just not living and doing what they feel is their best for God. It helps you get out of the "routine" Christian life. LOVE IT : )
